A DAY OF WORKSHOPS & A SHOW with NADIRAH NASREEN
Doors will open at 9:30 am for registration, shopping and socializing!
10:30 am - 12:30 pm
Drum Solo Technique & Choreography
So your music takes off…fast! Don’t stand still and vibrate! Learn how to design combinations that keep you traveling and incorporate level changes into your drum solo routine! Combinations will include layered shimmies and arm work. Techniques learned will be applied to a short drum solo choreography.
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Extend your repertoire by adding props to your routine. Balancing adds rich variety and can be done with a sword, tray, basket or cane. Balancing a prop reinforces proper posture and adds isolation and control to your movement which transfers to your overall dance technique. Combinations and travelling movements will be covered. Bring a sword, tray, basket or cane to this workshop. Some extras will be available.

Nadirah Nasreen is known for her unique style and technique, and is especially known for her technical treatment of zills and the drum solo. She has been bringing her knowledge of Egyptian, Lebanese, and Turkish Oriental dance to students in the Washington DC metropolitan area for 15 years. Her musical treatment of zills has its origins in being a professional keyboard player since the age of 15. Her love for oriental music and rhythms started during her childhood in Athens, Greece where she grew up experiencing the powerful sounds of Greek and Middle Eastern music, and learning Greek folkloric dances. Nadirah is a nationally featured performer at schools, workshops, and Middle Eastern dance events. Her Finger Cymbal, Technique, Live Band, and Mulicultural Education workshops have engaged, new students and master performers alike.
