Let's meet up for even more writing critiques!

Hey fellow writers,

We're planning on having another meeting on June 1st. Although it was a good meeting where we got to talk about Ken's deliciously creepy completed short story, we only had a few folks show up this time; I'd like to get that back to six or seven! Remember, even if you are too busy to write anything every month, it'd still be great to hear your critique of other submissions, and just conversation about writing in general. Don't be shy!

The next prompt is brought to you by Celia Mater! It was good to meet you at this last get together, and I hope to see you next month. The prompt is as follows:

"My suggestion for a prompt for June is the following: Pick either Mothers' Day or Fathers' Day. I thought of this because both Mother and Father are 'loaded' terms and could go any of a number of ways."

So, there it is. Have at it, everyone. Feel free to use this as inspiration for a poem, short story, etc. Also remember that your piece doesn't have to use this prompt in order to get critiqued; it's only meant for inspiration. Just submit your work under the "Files" tab (under the "More" tab), and come up with some thoughtful, constructive critique of the other submissions you find.

Please have the submission you want to have critiqued in by 5/25. The meeting is on 6/1 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Rockwell Public Library. Please try to read and think carefully about all of the other submissions before the meetup.

Thanks!

-Ashley

PS: Also, remember that you can request to have any piece critiqued online if you can't make it to the meeting. I'd be more than happy to do so!

With any luck this will be the last one I have to miss due to my job. Since January, I've had no Saturdays scheduled off. I don't know if Genevieve can make it to this one, but she has a 15 year old daughter who writes poetry, I suggested she should sit in on a meet up and see if she finds it appropriate. Hope the meet up is great for you all!

What was her name? You should have her join (or her mom) join the meetup group. We actually ended up without any poets at this meeting (which is strange, because the first meeting consisted of 80% poets, and we usually have at least one). Ken will hopefully be back in July, and L will be back in August; they're the two regular poet attendees.

I look forward to seeing you there in August. Man, you're sure keeping us waiting for the next chapter/edit of Echo's Quest. :P

Also, for those newcomers who brought a hard copy of their work, please upload it to the "files" tab under the "more" tab. I'd be more than happy to look over it in the next couple of days and post some of my thoughts about them on the discussion board.

This meetup was a bit more like the first one we did where we gave quick introductions of ourselves and discussing topics related to writing (for the most part, anyway). I was glad to see some new faces; although it's a shame that some of our typical members weren't able to make it to this meeting. Overall, I liked talking with the three new folks, and I hope we get to do more critiquing next meeting when we've all had a chance to look over people's work.

I have missed each of these so far which is unfortunate as I'd love to attend. I live out of town and already have plans for that weekend.

That's unfortunate. I'm out of town quite a bit myself. Luckily, other plans have yet to overlap with this meetup. If you can't make it, feel free to post some of your work anyway, and I could give you some feedback on the discussion forum. Otherwise, I hope to see you at a meetup one of these days! We've been meeting the first Saturday of the month so far.
