William Alan Shatner is 79 years old as of March 22, 2010, and has had a long wonderful career as an actor. But how many of his movies can you name outside of Star Trek and the cameo appearances? If you knew the full list of his major works, you'd be very surprised indeed. This group will bring together fans of the Shatner and we will watch his old forgotten movies (some of which are only in black and white) from back in the days before Star Trek, when he was not the square-jawed Captain of the Starship Enterprise, but when he was just square-jawed and handsome...and Canadian!
A walk through Shatner's amazing early career, which began in Montreal, is a walk through American history! For example, did u know that he understudied for Christopher Plummer in a stage production of "Henry V" when he was a very young man in his twenties? Also, that he got his stockbrokering advice from Lorne Greene? And that some of his films like "The Intruder", a film about institutionalized racism in the States back in the era of segregation, were too controversial for theaters to play? We will discuss his life and more at our meetups.
His films are actually educational if you want to know more about the tumultuous times he lived in. Great if you love history and sociology, or if you're just a Shatner fan!
When we get enough members, we will meet at La Fontana and watch the Shatner on the big screen over cappuccinos. :)
