World Soccer Project's Thursday Night Pick-Up Soccer Group

This is a WORLD SOCCER PROJECT (WSP) pick-up group for men and women of all playing abilities who want a relaxed, friendly, and organized opportunity to play the beautiful game, and who also would like to support a good cause: Education programs in New York's underfunded schools.

ALL PROCEEDS from WSP PICK-UP GROUPS and LEAGUES in NYC go to NYC's THE FUND FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS (THE FUND).

THE FUND applies all WSP monies to the following initiatives in underfunded schools: to building and repairing gyms; to purchasing essential sports equipment; and to helping create and run NYC's first Middle School soccer league.

WHAT TYPE OF GAMES WILL YOU FIND AT THIS PICK-UP GROUP:

Small-sided games (5v5 to 8v8 - depending on the number of people who RSVP on a given night).

Two games will occur at the same time: The first two will start at 7:30. And the second two will begin at 8:30.

You will be guaranteed one of these 'formal' games per night. You can also form your own game before or after your 'formal' game, using a large turf area adjacent to the 'formal' games. Thus, you can play for up to two hours, if you like.

**** When you RSVP you MUST indicate which time slot you'd like: 7:30-8:30 or 8:30-9:30. ****

All games will have solid, steel goals: 12 by 6 feet.

All games will have refs.

Balls will be provided.

WHEN:

Thursday nights, from 7:30 to 9:30.

WHERE:

Grover Cleveland High School's brand new field:

1701 Dekalb Ave (on the Bushwick/Ridgewood border)
NY 11385

Entrance to the field is on Dekalb, between Cypress and Seneca. The field is NOT at Grover Cleveland HS, but it's the field the school uses.

Take the L train to the Dekalb stop and walk 2.5 blocks through a quiet residential neighborhood.

FEES:

$5 per player, per night (plus a 45 cent transaction fee for paying on-line).

EXTRAS:

In addition to goals, refs and a good cause behind this group, there are new bathroom facilities at this field. (As many of you will know, a tree and a dark patch is about all that NY Parks can offer after 5 pm.) Moreover, the field is fully enclosed and, in accordance with school rules, at least one security staff is on-site (at the entrance to the field).
