Rolling Stone Editor/Writer Leads Fiction Writing Group

The Writers Cafe, which started in the fall of 2010, has been going strong for over a year and a half now. There are eight of us in the group and I'm hoping to add one or two additional members. If you are interested, join up and send me an email. I'll contact you and give you an email address where you can send a writing sample -- either a chapter of your novel or a couple of short stories. Please don't be intimidated by this request. It's not a about judging whether you're "good enough," but rather, we have a great group of writers and I need to see that what you're doing is in sync with the group. I’m looking for fiction writers interested in a weekly writing group that meets in El Cerrito. Need help getting your novel finished? Want a supportive group to hear your words and provide constructive feedback? Want to participate in conversation with other writers about writing? Want to learn techniques that will help you improve your writing? I was a staff writer/editor at Rolling Stone for a decade, contributed non-fiction to Esquire, downbeat, Details, Vibe, New Musical Express, Wired, New West, New Times and numerous other publications. I was in the Dangerous Writers group in Portland for several years where I work-shopped my first novel, which I’m currently revising. If you’ve got a novel you’re working on, or have been writing short stories, this could be the writing group for you. The group meets for two hours every Thursday night from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. What's most important is that you are committed to writing, and that you write on a daily basis. Writers of genre fiction (mystery, private eye, science-fictions, etc.) need not apply. $20.00 a week/no charge for the first session. If $20 is a problem talk to me about it. (By the way, this Meetup site is only one of the ways people have found out about the group, and we don't use it as a way of tracking attendance. It does not reflect who is in the group or who is attending a particular meeting.)
