The Carnival of Basel (German: Basler Fasnacht) is the biggest carnival in Switzerland and starts on the Monday after Ash Wednesday at precisely 4:00 am. The carnival lasts for exactly 72 hours and, therefore, ends on Thursday morning at 4:00 am. During this time the Fasnächtler (the participants) dominate the old town of central Basel, running free in the streets and restaurants. Basler Fasnacht is often referred to as die drey scheenschte Dääg ("the three most beautiful days"). For more information about this event, see: http://www.fasnachts-comite.ch/en/
So this year the Basler Fasnacht will take place from March 10th to March 13th. There are two main processions and I'd like to check out the events on Wednesday. If anybody would like to join me you're more than welcome to!
The procession will start at 1.30 pm, so I plan to take the train at 11 AM from Zürich HB, walk around in Basel, have lunch somewhere, see the lanterns and relax a bit before the procession starts. If you want to join me, we can meet up at 10.30 (with your trainticket in your hand) below the Blue Angel at Zürich HB (so we can walk towards the right track at 10.45). Or meet me/us at 12.00 on the station in Basel SBB.
