Lightroom 5 Workshop: importing and organizing photos

  • Apr 28, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

The Zurich Photography Meetup Group and the Photo International Club Zurich would like to invite you to the first Lightroom 5 workshop.

This will be a thorough hands-on workshop focusing on the Library Module of Adobe Lightroom 5, an image organizing and processing software program very popular with photographers.

The Library Module is where you can import, sort, view, rate, compare and organize your images within Lightroom.  It can be thought of as your "home base" once you import your images into Lightroom.

It has many useful features for photographers however this is the module that many people struggle with and therefore this course is designed to help you understand how this module works and how to utilize the various features that are available and how to import your images, quickly and easily, into your Lightroom catalog.

Who should join us:  Beginning and experienced users of Lightroom who want to more fully understand the various features of the library module and how they work.  This course will be geared toward those who want to learn how to import and organize their images so that they can be found quickly and easily.

What we will cover: We will go through all the features of the Library Module. Ultimately, the goal is for you to develop your own workflow with Lightroom.

The following topics will be covered:

•  Installing, licenses, price, using the cloud version, etc.

• Importing from a memory card, camera or existing folders

• Understanding catalogs

• Categorizing, rating and comparing multiple images in a library

• Using collections, including quick collections and smart collections

• Sorting and finding any images

• Using keywords

• Establishing a workflow

What to bring: It is not strictly necessary to participate with a laptop, but it's definitively easier if you bring  a laptop with Adobe Lightroom already installed (version 4 or 5). A Trial version is fine, too.

Additionally you want to bring your external hard drive (if you use one for storing your images) as well as a memory card from your camera with images that can be uploaded as this will be part of a class exercise.  Also bring a card reader for uploading if you use one, or a cord if you go directly from the camera. A power cord to your computer, a thumb drive and paper to take notes.
You can download a trial version of Adobe Lightroom 5 from this address:

Location: Raum 3, Quartierzentrum Aussersihl Hohlstrasse 67, Zürich - please be on time!

Number of participants: limited to 15 people

Price: 25 CHF

Enrolling: The workshop is organized in collaboration with the Photo International Club Zurich ( and you should enroll on the club's web page. Click on this link to enroll: and follow the instructions for the payment.

Thank you, I will be able to come up with a better workflow with the new received information. Lightroom makes more sense now and justifies over ACDSEE or photoshop to me I used until recently. I would be interested in discussing the exporting too sometime if you guys plan another workshop on this topic.
