Every once in a while I invite an inspiring speaker to meet with the group, to share their ideas about creativity. It’s valuable to simply come, listen, and connect.
This time I bring you Kristen Truempy, she is a member of this group.
So, Kristen, What’s the plan?
Psychology and creativity have lots to learn from each other, and that’s what this event will be about.
This talk is for you if:
- you would like to know how emotions affect creativity
- you want to understand how your ideas about success influence what you create
- you would like to increase flow
- you would like to know how to deal with negative thoughts
- you would like toget an idea about how to implement good habits
Have you ever tried to undress yourself using workman tools? Or spent a day blindfolded exploring your garden? If you are wondering how exactly these inputs can help you shape the sculpture or finish that chapter you’re working on it’s time for some psychological bamboozlement.
The goal of Positive Psychology is to understand what makes life worth living and what we can do to increase the likelihood of flourishing throughout our life. Creativity is an important part of a rich life and while it may be counter intuitive to apply a brainy discipline like psychology to something so right-brained as creativity, understanding certain psychological principles might make you a better artist. You will learn why you won’t have to end up depressed and alone to create art but that brain cells grooving to a happy heart actually also stand a chance. You will learn more about the state of flow and why at times it’s better to watch TV than create art.
What will you take home:
- an improved understanding of the organ that does the understanding for you
- fresh ideas on how to grow out of certain problems
- an appreciation that creativity is not confined to traditionally creative tasks
Who is Kristen Truempy? I am a 29 year old student of positive psychology who occasionally creates travel photo books and attempts to be creative at my office job without accidentally evading taxes. Last November I took on a modified version of the NANOWRIMO (National Novel Writing Month) where the goal was to write 50’000 words in a month. I made it to 37’000, which is still a hell of a lot of words. I enjoy engaging with creativity on different levels: to write, to find better ways to do stuff at work, to learn new techniques, read about other creative people and creativity challenges.
