Tasting Menu for lunch at Rico's Kunststuben in Küsnacht

To start this group, i have arranged a table at Ricco's Kunststuben in Küsnacht for a lunch sitting at 12:00pm on Saturday October 5th. The location is a low entry barrier regarding travel from Zürich and if this group takes off we'll see ourselves traveling further away quickly.

The place was formerly (until end 2010) known as "Petermann's Kunsstuben" run by Horst Petermann, who has passed on his chef hat to his long time sous-chef, Rico Zandonella. This restaurnat has long be somewhat of an institution on the Zürisee gold coast and reportedly the quality has not decreased since the handover.

The 6 course tasting menu comes at CHF 180, there is an optional wine pairing available for additional CHF 120 and vegetarians apparently will find happiness too, if we let them know in advance.

The degustationsmenü (tasting menu) changes with the seasons. The current one can be found here: http://kunststuben.com/wp/news/das-aktuelle-menu but they also offered to create a surprise menu for us if preferred (same price/performance ratio as the published menu). Please indicate your personal preference when RSVPing.

Since i have absolutely no idea how many people will be joining this meetup, so i have booked a table for 6 people to start with. If the seats get taken quickly i'll check by how many seats we can expand the reservation.

    Hi all,
    Seems that you guys are going to have a good time on Saturday. Wish I could join. Sat 12th would be perfect for me.
    Anyway, I am dropping a note here coz I have an idea. I hope Stefan would not mind. I think we all here have tried and tested many restaurants and it may be a good idea to share your experiences, something similar to a personal review just for our group. To minimize the work and obligation, I think we can set up something casual and on a volunteer basis e.g. if someone goes to any restaurant and find it worth sharing, then feel free to do so. I am one who would be happy to read. Or to simplify further, we can probable just list the restos we have been lately so that when someone wants to decide, he/she can write a note for opinion. Anyway, if it is a stupid idea just ignore it. And I hope Stefan doesn't mind. I don't mean to steal the forum.

      Hi Fah

      I would appreciated if this become a place where I can go and check instead of doing my own research via Internet. I do not use this meet up as an organizer but for a sure that Stefan can add an extra tab where we can leave our recommendation. I do not know is it possible to be organise alphabetically (e.g. name of the country) or we can just write post. Maybe help desk of the meet up can give us an advice for this specific requirement.

      @Ana every member of this group (not only organizers) can add and edit pages. I would recommend starting there, since this section of the meetup org-space is not used at all yet. I'd vote for having a marker for restaurant-review" in the page title, the placename and a location name and date. Kile "RR - Asador Etxebarri - Bilbao - 06/2013". Making things sorted by whatever criteria will come once we have the problem of actually having more pages than a handful. Ca you try this out, play with it a bit and give feedback if that would work?

      Hi Phuong, no problem at all. @All I wonder however if it would not have been less of a hassle if i had stayed with the initial 6 seats on this meetup instead of raising a fuss with the place to extend the reservation to 12. I need to put on my thinking hat in order to have this handled better for the next time.

Can you give me a quick show of hands here who needs vegetarian or has specific food allergies that the Kunststuben should know in advance for saturday when planning the tasting menu? Many thanks.

    I have just joined Meetup and this is the most exciting group! I have been planning to go to Rico's but never managed to fit the schedule. Unfortunately I am out of town this weekend. Man! But that's because I will be dining at Michelin 2-Star Geranium in Copenhagen. Enjoy your meal and count me in for the next time. Cheers.

      Wow thanks for the tip Gustav. I didn't expect a good advice from this note. Awesome. I will let you know my culinary exploration in Copenhagen. We are also booked at Relae and Host. Too bad Noma doesn't have enough seats for us despite 3-month advanced booking. I will just have to go back!

      You are very welcome ! I hope you enjoy Ida Davidsen if you have an opportunity ! I understand why you wish to try Noma. I have visited Noma some years ago. Personally I would not say you are missing that much by not going to Noma. I am not saying that it is a bad restaurant but to call it the best restaurant in the world is for me completely incomprehensible. I will gladly tell you more about my experience at Noma if we meet one day. Another place you could consider is a restaurant called Soelleroed Kro. It is however around 45 minutes drive from central Copenhagen. Have a nice trip !

    I've just called the place in an attempt to expand our reservation. There is only an answering machine and apparently they are on a summer break between now and september 3rd.       I have not thought of any deadlines. I guess, this should be ruled by common sense. Like: Don't keep a seat you are not going to take, everybody is flexible when unforeseen things hinder your attendance and if last minute cancellations become a habit in this group we'll have to invent something formal. So, just try to slip him in once i manage to secure more seats on the table with the restaurant and increase the number of places in this meetup. As of now all six seats are taken and we have two people waitlisted.
