Following the sad news that Iain Banks has just announced he is suffering from terminal cancer, we have decided to included him as our next book. Writing mainstream fiction as Iain Banks, and science fiction as Iain M Banks, he has published 24 books. We will read “The Crow Road”, first published in 1992:
'It was the day my grandmother exploded. I sat in the crematorium, listening to my Uncle Hamish quietly snoring in harmony to Bach's Mass in B Minor, and I reflected that it always seemed to be death that drew me back to Gallanach.'
Prentice McHoan has returned to the bosom of his complex but enduring Scottish family. Full of questions about the McHoan past, present and future, he is also deeply preoccupied: mainly with death, sex, drink, God and illegal substances...

If you dig around, you might also be able to find the 1996 BBC four part miniseries on DVD.
We will book a table in The Standard – hopefully in the quieter room to one side, away from the main bar (tbc). Look for a copy of the novel on the table!
