Sue, do you take donations of gently used children items?

Welcome Northwest Region Volunteers!

Northwest Region Coordinator: Cheryl Blakely
The purpose of this newsletter is to share ideas with each other about how to best campaign for The Ohio Healthcare Freedom Amendment. Many of us are more than willing to share our ideas. I'm not saying each of these ideas will work for you in your county, but they are here to try out. Who knows, maybe you can come up with something for the rest of us! So, go ahead, be my guest and look through these ideas.

Absentee Voters
Advice from:
H.R. Pence in Shelby County
Please get into contact with the Board of Elections in your County and request the Absentee Ballot List. You should be able to pick up these lists daily between 3:30pm - 4:00pm. Below is the information that H.R. used to figure out how much literature she needed:
To give the mailings some context, in 2010 we sent 3,200 pieces of literature in Shelby County.  But, in 2009 (another off year) we sent 2,300.  So I estimate I will need 2800 pieces of literature for the 2011 election.  You can use this same information and make an estimate for 2011.  I used a number half way between 2009 and 2010.

You can either send the literature, which is a great way to do it but costly, take the information to the addresses on the list or call them on the phone.  If you send them, the board of elections will print out the address labels for you at .01 per label by the request H.R. used below. Another way, is to call the absentee voters on the phone and remind them that ISSUE 3 is on the ballot and to please vote YES!

Dear Board of Elections,
Per our conversation this morning, I am requesting a daily list of absentee ballot requests printed on address labels.  If you could Email me or call me when the decision comes down about absentee ballot requests, I would really appreciate it.  I understand the deadline is September 29th for the decision to be made.
The address to send an invoice for the labels is:
 Your name
000 street address
city, state zipcode

The cost per mailing is $.01 for label, $ .14 for envelope for a total of $. 15 per piece of literature arriving at the requestors home the day after they request the absentee ballot. The envelope that she found to be the best price was from Staples.

Letters

Advice from: Stephanie Kremer in Mercer County

Here are sample letters we used to send out to educate and collect donations from individuals, doctors, businesses, and people who signed the petition. Groups can change what they need to on the letters to fit their group.

If you are a non-profit group, you might want to make sure these letters can be used by your group first. You might just send them out as making people aware about Issue 3 and not ask for the donation, unless you send one of the OFHF cards with the letter or have them send the money to Merser County Liberty group, as they are a PAC.

Simple Script

Advice from: Cheryl Blakely in Hancock County

Here is a very simple script that my group decided upon. This newsletter has a few good scripts to choose from. This one is very stright forward and doesn't go into a lot of detail. Also, the scripts that I have in this newsletter are not to be used with OFHF call centers as they have their own and only use the one script. Anyway this is what my group liked and you are more than welcome to use it.

Hi my name is ___________ and I am one of the 4,500 volunteers from Ohio who got Issue 3 on the ballot.  The Ohio Health Care Freedom Amendment, will preserve the freedom of Ohioans to choose their own individual health care plans without penalties. Can we count on you to vote YES for Issue 3?

Script for Phone Calls

Advice from: Bob Cooper in Paulding County

Begin your call with: Hello there. My name is __________ and I live here in _____ County. I am a volunteer calling on behalf of the group of over 4000 Ohioans who worked for over a year and a half getting the Ohio Health Care Freedom Amendment on the Ballot this November 8th.

Question 1

Are you familiar with that effort and that the Amendment is on the ballot this November 8th as ISSUE 3? You might even ask them if they have voted recently from this address?. A very important question which can gain votes.

There are three possible answers to the above Question 1?.

If they say YES to Question 1? Say: Wonderful!! We found that nearly 75% of the people we talked with in the petition signing phase of this referendum, were very supportive of the initiative.

Question 2

May I ask if you also are supportive of the Amendment and would vote YES ON ISSUE 3?

If they say that they have not voted for a few years from this address, you may want to encourage them to re-register from their new address or if they cannot get out to utilitize the absentee or mail-in balloting by calling their local BOE 419-___________ and requesting that they be sent the ballot. You might then ask them about their support of the Ohio Freedom Amendment.

If they say YES to Question 2, say: Thank you so much for that vote of confidance. As you can imagine, this is a very important issue to our state and the nation. The very aspect of Freedom to

choose our own paths of health insurance, and health care has been taken from us by the Patient Protection and Health Care Reform Act of 2010. We will see this magnified in 2014 when the mandate comes into law, and Ohioans will be forced to comply or be penalized if we do not pass this amendment now. Please remember to be SURE AND VOTE AND VOTE YES ON ISSUE 3

on November 8th. Please encourage other voting members of your household to also help us pass this important initiative Thank you and God Bless you for taking the time to talk to me.

We will see you at the poles!!  Hang up the Call.

If they say NO to Question 2 , say: If you are satisfied with your understanding of the issue and do not want any additional information,

I want to thank you for taking the time to talk to me. Wait for a possible response?if none: Have a very nice day, and Hang up the call.

If they say they would like to know more about it, then offer to give them what you know. You could say the Amendment is a response to the 2010 Health Care Reform Act which is the first step in a complete Govt takeover of our private health care system and one sixth of our entire economy. You could also offer to read them the three direct statements of the amendment itself or direct them to the Secretary of States office in Ohio to find it for themselves. If you offer them information and say: Does that help you in your decision in any way? If they give an answer, then proceed as in steps 3, 4 or 5 as above.
