The Hatcher Pass area is beautiful, and this is a great time of year to take advantage of the daylight and possibly some spring ski conditions. The peaks around the Mint hut are spectacular.
The general plan is:
Ski into the Mint Hut on Friday
Day trip to the Bomber Hut and back on Saturday
Ski out on Sunday (possibly spend the morning doing turns before departure).
This is a good trip for solid skiers who want to do more backcountry ski trips. You will need skis (metal edged), skins, overnight gear (sleeping bag, pad, etc), avalanche gear (beacon, probe shovel), ice axe and crampons. Experience skiing with a big pack is recommended.
You must be a member of the Mountaineering Club of Alaska (MCA) (only $15 per year - what a deal! ) to stay in the huts.
I am also looking for a co-organizer who can help organize logistics etc. If you would like to help, please contact me - or indicate it in your reply. If you think you might want to lead trips in the future, or just would like to help I would really appreciate it. You do not need to be an official meet-up organizer.
