Backcountry Ski Tour - Iditarod Historic Trail - Turnagain Pass

Let's go check out the Iditarod Historic Trail up in Turnagain Pass again. Last time we skied part of the trail and then decided to do some "Lewis and Clark" explorations, making a big loop. This time we will stick to the main trail, going part way up into the Ingram Creek drainage. Depending on the group size and available cars we will try to drop a vehicle at one end and do a one-way trip, parking cars at the Lower Eddie's parking lot and the Tin Can parking lot.

Bring metal edged skis and skins, avalanche gear (beacon, shovel probe), appropriate gear for the weather conditions, and food and water. Expect to be out for most of the day. This trip requires intermediate backcountry ski skills.

If the weather and snow conditions aren't decent, we can head up towards Johnson Pass for a different version of a tour.

Bring skis/skins/poles, clothes for the weather, food/water, Avalanche beacon, probe, shovel. Expect to be out for most of the day.

Christopher, we use metal-edged touring skis, cross-country style. Some people use their telemark and/or AT gear, but it's much heavier than regular B/C touring skis and boots. Wendy, I am sorry but dogs aren't allowed on MCA trips. It is a club policy.

When you say metal edge skis, are you talking more cross country BC style or actual alpine touring setup? Just trying to understand what kind of terrain this is. Thanks!

Amy, would an backcountry-savy dog be welcome on this tour?

cool, thanks a lot! So, I don't have a vehicle available on Saturday but I can get dropped off at Carrs. Can I steal a ride with anyone to the actual turnagain parking lot of or how does it work? :)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
