Level 4-Otter Bench/Opal Canyon Trail Hike

Another new place to check out!!

Never been to these trails. They are fairly new trail system on BLM land.

The trail head is just past the Crooked River Golf Course. The total hike will be about 10 miles with some elevation. We also can hike down the Pink trail.

We'll meet at the Cascade village Starbucks and carpool to trail head. No NW pass required.

Love the rocks! So many cool spots in Central Oregon. Weather was nice, winds were light. Easy hike for the most part, except for Pink Trail. Pink Trail is a nice trail down to the river on rocks and mud with steep spots. It was a good day...

good group to hike with. Beautiful canyon and river. Hike down to the river was worth the effort climbing back to the main trail.

Wait lists are still something I am figuring out, do I wait, or do I sign up for a another guaranteed outing?! Enjoy your day hike :0)!

I was low on the waitlist so I hiked this today with a friend. Good hiking weather, good trail, good views. Did Otter Bench and Opal Loop but not the Pink Trail to the river. 3 1/2 hrs with a few minor stops. Thank you Aaron for presenting this hike in Meetup. Hope the weather holds out for all of you.

Hi William-I sadly had to cancel going because of a cough I developed, but would be interested in going on my own another time. Can you tell me if the trail at any point runs right next to any sheer drop-offs? I'm afraid of heights, that's why I ask. Steep hills I don't mind, just the sheer drop-offs scare me. Thanks!!

Nicolette, you will be fine. You would have to walk off the trail to get to the edge of the rim that looks down to the river. You will have views of the river from the trail. Enjoy.

    rain/snow-or-shine kinda hike?

    February 22, 2013

    • Aaron

Yes. I'm thinking it might not be too wet, but it could be windy in the canyon. Be prepared....

@William ~ thank you for sharing your experience with this hike, I will keep this in mind for upcoming Bend trip : ).

Just a FYI. There won't be a second group for this, so please be sure to update your RSVP if you can't go. I would suggest that only the first two on the waiting list show up just in case we get some "No Shows"
For those who didn't get to go. I will do other hike to this place in March.
    Thanks!

You can also do this as a one way by doing a key exchange 1/2 starting at Lake BC. We did that once with the nordic club.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
