Level 2-Skylight Cave hike

Never been to this cave. Talked to the Forest Service, no restrictions, just ask if you been in a cave outside of Oregon, don't wear some clothes or pack, because of the white nose syndrome.

Cave is located west of Sisters. Not a long cave, but some really cool features.

We'll meet at Cascade Village Mall Starbucks at Noon and carpool to cave. The way to cave is along forest roads that could be rough.

Sorry no guest or dogs.

Cool little cave. Got there just in time for some small sun beams.

Sorry about the last minute change. Not feeling so well today, and don't want to be a burden. I hope to catch up with the group soon. Have fun!

I was just there last Sat for a visit. I had read about it in Scott Cook's Bend Overall book and was afraid I would miss the light beams if I waited too many more weeks.
They were great, and probably last thru June. The best time for viewing is 9-12. We got there about 10 & spent 20 mins in the cave and then walked around up top to see the skylight holes. Be careful!
I took some 10-30 sec exposures. I also marked approx on the map. https://picasaweb.google.com/polykick/SkylightCave
One tip, you will take the spur to the right and drive 0.7 miles from road 1028 (cave entrance will be on your right, next to the road. Park just past the entrance.) This spur is located just after a tee junction that goes to a camp trial head to the lft. There is a stop sign on that road (you will see the backside of it on your lft as you drive by.) A tall tree on your rt. will have signs to the camp, except that the sign facing S-ish is flipped down and easy to miss. We did not see it until driving out.

PS you will need headlamps and flashlights to enter the cave. Then we turned them off for photos.

Thanks for the tip. I have a photo group event in the morning, so this was the earliest I could meet. I assume even missing the sun beams, we will still get some good light in the cave.

Looking forward to the river walk on the 18th, though.

It is a long drive for a short cave. Plus you will miss the sunbeams via the hornitos if you start out that late, which is really the only draw of this cave. Perhaps consider go looking for Sawyer caves, as there are multiple features to find in that recreation area? They are only about an 11 minute drive further time-wise. Details can be found in Cook's book.

Thanks for the info. I was heading out to check it out Saturday, so I thought I offer the group to come along. I don't mind the drive, not everything can be at my front door...

Hey Aaron! Thanks for offering this adventure. I really enjoy your unknown and scrambling hikes! They are my favorite and I learn so much. Better then reading a book.

Hi Aaron - I just read the description from the link and unfortunately my back will not be able to handle that. Have fun and look out for vampire bats.

    Aaron, Hi,
When you have a chance could you please post a link about this particular cave? Interested in name, location, distance inside, and about how much time to put aside for this activity!
I travel from a different city for Bend hikes, kayaks, camping, I really appreciate the leaders helping me out with all these details, so I can make a plan :0)...means a few outdoor activities before/after the scheduled Meetup!
    Thank you so much!

Sorry I forgot to mention that we'll be using a ladder to enter the cave.
