New Year Midnight hike

  • December 31, 2010 · 9:30 PM

Hazel and I are planning to hike to the Edison Shelter to bring in the New Year. The shelter is small and there may be other people there so we are limiting the group to six people. We will meet at the Starbucks in Safeway on Century at 9:30pm. We should start hiking by 10:30 and reach the shelter before midnight. If we leave the shelter at 12:30 we should be back in Bend around 2am. There will be no moon so it will be VERY DARK. It will also be cold. The overnight forecast temperature for Bend is about 20 degrees - so it will be in the low teens at Edison. If you want to join us - you need your snowshoes, warm clothing, a good headlamp, a serious sense of adventure and some festive food. Where: Starbucks IN Safeway on Century When: 9:30pm Friday 31st Dec.

5 of us hit the Edison Hut for New Year. Although it was cold (5 degrees?) the trail was excellent and we warmed up quickly. A good blaze kept us warm at the hut. There was one other group there and we shared a memorable New Year. We plan to do more night hikes.

Sounds fun! It looks like it will be Partly Cloudy and about 8 deg. I may make it out but I'm still not sure what I am doing just yet.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
