Revised Last Sunset of Summer on Bessie Butte

I changed location and time so that we can have a butte to ourselves, please still come along!

Yep! Fall is around the corner and I thought it would be a good to get up high (some what) and watch the last sunset of summer from Bessie Butte. We'll meet at the new Starbucks location across the street from Fred Meyer, the old location for the Kona Plate at 5:30 pm and carpool to the butte.

Bessie Butte is about 5 miles down China Hat Road. We would pretty much have the butte to ourselves. It's just as easy of a walk as Lava Butte and has a great view of the sunset.

Please, if you can, bring a snack to share for a summer sunset buffet on the summit.

Bring a flashlight or headlamp!

This was my first hike with the group. The snacks at the top were a great bonus. Beautiful scenery. I'm so glad I went. :0)

It was my first meetup and I found the members of the group friendly and helpful. They showed a genuine interest in me as a newcomer and asked great questions and gave me useful info about area.

Since we have so many hikers coming, I was thinking of changing the locations to Bessie Butte. Bessie Butte is about 5 miles down China Hat Rd. The trail is roughly the same distance (3/4 mile) and about the same elevation. The butte is more like Pilot Butte, that it doesn't have crater. We would pretty much have the butte to ourselves and it has great views of the Cascades. Please let me know what you think.

I was thinking if everyone brought a snack to share with everyone, we could have a little summer sunset buffet on the top. Doesn't have to be anything extravagant, maybe stuff like cookies, crackers, fruit(like grapes) or cheese. Something easily carried in a day pack. Just a thought.
