Announcing a new event for The Bend Hiking Meetup Group!

What: Snowshoeing

When: Saturday, January 12, 8:00 AM

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Who should come: Experienced hikers able to snow-shoe 5+ miles.

Why: SNOW!!!

Event Description: Bring your snow shoes and meet at Starbucks (outside Safeway on Century Drive) at 8am. As usual, the destination and length of hike will depend entirely on the weather and the snow conditions. Tom will be on a business trip so Hazel and Nahid will lead the hike.

Here are the usual hints and tips.
Dress appropriately. Wear layers so you can adjust your insulation according to the weather.
Do not wear cotton clothing. It loses all insulation when wet.
Wear sturdy hiking boots with thick wool socks.
Carry gaiters, waterproof over-pants and a waterproof shell.
We normally car pool because parking in some of the snow-parks can often be limited. Do not volunteer to drive if your car is nor properly equipped for winter conditions (i.e. traction tires, chains and a winter recreation pass).
Remember to pay the car pool driver $3 for gas.
If you don't have a pair of snow-shoes you can hire them at Pine Mountain Sports for $15.
Drink plenty liquid. Believe it or not - dehydration can be as big a problem in Winter as in Summer.

Have fun

Tom
