About The Bookmark Club.
Who are we and what's our club about? Good question.
Well... you've found a book club which is unlike most others ... First of all and most importantly... this club is wholeheartedly dedicated to the love of Non-fiction books. If you love reading and discussing non-fiction books, you will be among friends here!
The aim of the club.
We’re a social group of non fiction booklovers... The focus of the club is to build a community of non-fiction book lovers (NFBL's) who love to share their passion for books and thinking, and along the way ... hopefully make some new friends too.
We aim to be a refuge for NFBL's when their friends can no longer stand them prattling on about the latest book they're reading (non-fiction of course)! Come along - and we'll happily prattle on with you!
What we're like.
We're easy going, welcoming and friendly thinkers who just like to stop and think about the world we live in on occasion. We read and discuss all sorts: Popular Science; Philosophy; Psychology; History; Anthropology; Auto/Biographies; Social Sciences; Culture; Language ...
How does it work?
The atmosphere at meetups is comfortable, casual and open. With enjoyable, friendly discussions: rather than a formal, structured, in depth analysis approach. Most of our meetups are social in nature, and are smaller size groups. RSVP's are required.
To cover the meetup membership fees, and to help deter half hearted RSVP's being made ... there is an RSVP Fee of £1 for meetups. RSVP fee's are paid via paypal when you RSVP 'YES' to an event. These are non refundable. If the MeetUp is cancelled or rescheduled to a date you can no longer attend, you will receive a refund (less Paypal transaction fees).
If you change your RSVP - you forfeit your RSVP payment.
So if you want to come along to an event, please make sure you can make it before you RSVP. This also helps with the planning and management of events. We do have a 'No Show Policy', and no shows are monitored.
So what's coming up...
In 2013 we’ll be shifting gears slightly, and trying a few new things … but there will still be book discussion groups of course, and like we have in the past, we’ll be meeting for coffee catchups, pints at the pub, picnics in the park, and lecture events too as they come up…
Some of what we get up to...
"BookMeet." - Book focused meetings.
"Coffee & Conversation." - Casual coffee meetups.
"Sunday Afternoon Pint." - Casual Sunday afternoon at the Pub.
"Food for thought." - Conversation and some good food!
No matter the event though, feel free to share what you're reading and thinking about all in a friendly, social environment. So over a pint at the pub, coffee at a cafe, or bite to eat after work one night...
I hope that this page has given you a good picture of what our humble little book club is about and what you're likely to experience if you join the club ... if it sounds like what you're looking for - go ahead and sign up ... what's the worst that could happen?
Wishing you happy reading always!

A few things to note before applying for club membership...
Please take a few moments to read and consider... application to become a member of The Bookmark Club, constitutes acceptance of the below:
Expectations of Members:

- Polite, respectful consideration of all member opinions is required of everyone.
- Aggressive, bullying or domineering behaviour will NOT be tolerated and neither wil disruptive, argumentative or hostile behaviour... Members will be removed from the group if their behaviour is inappropriate.
- RSVP's to meetups are required for planning purposes. There is a £1 RVSP Fee to all meetups which is non-refundable, unless the event is cancelled or rescheduled to a date you can no longer attend. In which case your fee payment will be refunded (less Paypal transaction fees). If you RSVP for an event and don't show up, your attendance record will reflect this, and may mean if there are high demands for events with waiting lists, you may have to give up your spot to someone else who hasn't previously no showed ... please see our 'No Show' Policy for all the details.
