Assistant Photography Boot Camp

Please join us as we host critically acclaimed photographers Cameron Davidson and Jon Golden for an 8 hour workshop on what it takes to become a photographer’s assistant. This will prepare you to assist a professional photographer in the field or studio.

From The Instructors:
This is full on, hands-on workshops with much of the gear an assistant will most likely encounter on the majority of professional photo shoots. Many aspects of assisting will be explained in great detail, i.e. strobes, hot lights, flags, scrims, set etiquette, the assistant kit, tips on getting work, billing, and how to deal with the dreaded cancellation.

The workshop includes equipment demonstrations from two industry experts, and hands-on training, attendees will come away with the essential knowledge and confidence to build your own Pro Assistant reputation. Acquire a comprehensive understanding of professional assisting behavioral guidelines, including contemporary set-etiquette, and discover how this valuable training will get you more call-backs - more repeat clients, and more work.

In this course, you can expect to learn:
• Insight into industry expectations
• Identifying potential markets
• Effective communication and marketing strategies
• Whom you should know and how to develop a professional relationship
• Whom to contact to get hired
• What is expected of you when you are hired, & how to get paid for your work
• Managing self-income taxes
• What not to do, and things to look out for
• Demos of various lighting, camera and grip equipment

I thought all 3 speakers were excellent - i liked the format and that they all brought different perspectives to the table. I enjoyed learning about being an assistant photographer, and the experiences of Cameron and Jon -their philosophies, areas of expertise, equipment, etc. Enjoyed the group that attended - a good mix of backgrounds. Overall it met my expectations and then some. Look forward to checking out websites, and some videos that were mentioned. Thanks CPI and Christian!

The quality of workshops with CPI has always been high.. And the caliber of world-class shooters that teach them never ceases to amaze me. This was no exception. And for the average semi-pro -- new professional, this workshop was highly informational and a great value. The knowledge presented was worth FAR MORE than the fee charged.. I hope Cameron, Jon and Christian enjoyed themselves as much as we students enjoyed listening to and learning from them..

Looking forward to learning from Jon and Cameron... I'm moving into this kind of work, I hope, so this workshop is well planned.. I'll make a vote now, for a different post-event social location.. I'll admit it, too many concerts -- I can NOT HEAR in South Street Brewery... I've avoided events in there in the past, due to that.. But - missing the after-event social won't keep me from this.. Thanks, CPI!

So glad you are coming Gina - and I think this is going to be one of our best workshops!

I agree, C.. This is precisely the kind of information I'll need for what's next -- for my own photographic endeavors... Besides, I've had a lovely chat with Mr. Golden as he photographed the stage at LOOK3 from the balcony, each and every year.. It will be fun to get to know him a little better thru this.
