Frustrated with blown out highlights and muddy shadows? The camera does not see as well as you can in high contrast scenes. It is difficult to capture a scene with one shot. So how do the pros do it?
They use High Dynamic Range Photography. By combining exposure techniques with a computer program you can composite multiple images to get one beautiful image that realizes detail in both highlight and shadow areas.
This class teaches you the proper techniques for capturing a high contrast scene and what types of scenes will work. Then brings you into the digital darkroom using Nik HDR Effex Pro. Learn how to properly combine images to create both realistic and surrealistic images.
Class structure: This workshop will run from 9am to 1pm. We will meet in the classroom for a lecture on what HDR is and the techniques needed to capture appropriate images. Then we will go into the field to practice these techniques. Finally we'll return to the classroom to download images and learn how to combine them in Nik HDR Effex Pro.
- You must know how to use the SLR camera in the manual modes (manual, aperture & shutter priority) or have taken Intermediate Photography for the SLR camera part 1 +/- part 2.
- Student should also know how to download images for the lab session.
Students will need the following equipment for this class:
- SLR digital camera
- laptop with Nik HDR Effex Pro 15 day trial loaded. You can download a free 15 day trial of the program from:www.niksoftware.com/downloads
The class is hands on to aid the student in learning. All classes come with a detailed hand out. I need a minimum of 4 students to run the class. Class size is limited to 10 students.
