We are holding a silent auction/art show of CPI members' work to raise money for Help Portrait (hpcville.com) this year. We ask members to submit/donate one image (electronically) for the silent auction/sale. We will print 25 of the submissions and sell to the community during First Friday's on Nov 2; and post all the other submissions online for immediate sale.
*The submission process will be open to all CPI members, and the silent auction and online gallery sale will be open to anyone.
All the money raised will go towards Help Portrait Charlottesville, the local chapter of a movement of photographers who are using their time, equipment and expertise to give back to this holiday season. Our fundraising goal is to cover the Help Portrait expenses, and to purchase a dedicated printer for this annual event.
HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR PHOTOGRAPH:
Only 1 jpeg per member. Full resolution files no larger than 10mb. No watermarking, please.
File for uploading will go live THIS SATURDAY, October 13th at 10 am. We will take submissions from paid members until 10 am the following Saturday, October 20th.
The first 20 appropriately sized photographs properly uploaded WILL BE part of the silent auction and printed/mounted 11x17 for display.
CPI directors will choose an additional 5 jpegs from the remainder of submissions to round out the show/silent auction.
The photographs not being printed will be loaded into a SmugMug file and shared with the membership. Members are encouraged to share the file generously -- to incite early sales of their and other members' photographs.
Indeed, this auction is designed to be 'not-so-silent' in nature. Some good-natured competition between photographers in the form of 'Auction Trash Talk' is encouraged. But 'good-natured' is the hallmark.
Schedule of Events for 11/2:
5:30 - Event begins with drinks and lite snacks.
6-7p - Live music from a special guest.
7-8:00p - Photo booth antics and silent bidding during Auction trash talking
8:15p - Silent Auction winners announced.
Sorry I wasn't able to make it, I was in D.C. all weekend with the Navy Reserves, did you raise the goal amount?

Kindly add a title to your image, and/or a little about where/how you made the photograph.. It makes things more fun.. :)

Time to start thinking about what JPEG YOU will donate to the show. Think about your best photographs, and then winnow the list down to the ONE IMAGE you think would be sell-able to the masses. That photograph of your kid getting on the school bus is cute, but it won't sell to those that don't know the child. Landscapes, architecture, some sports and performance, and action photography tend to work well. But don't let those categories limit you.. The decision is ultimately, YOURS. No nudity, please. This is a PG rated event.
