Who fancies a day on the river? I've rented us a 12 seater boat with a diesel engine for the day panic not you don't have to row!
I know its a little way off but they get really booked up, plus I didn't want us to be frozen half to death like we were on the punt in October!
We get on our boat in Broxbourne, which is easily accessible by train from London - details are below. This base is ideally located for exploring the scenic delights of the Lee Valley Country Park, which is the perfect place for combining our boating with bird watching (hmmm not sure if we shall be quiet enough!), walking & relaxing. The boat pootles along at 4mph, so its going to be a very relaxing, leisurely day. I'm sure we will have lots of giggles along the way.
The facilities on board include hot & cold running water, interior & exterior seating, wc, cooker with oven and grill, radio / cd player, crockery & cutlery. So I was thinking that we could take a picnic lunch with us and either eat it on board, or attempt to moor (is that the right boating terminology?!) and eat off the boat.
I think it will be a lot of fun.
The cost of the days boating is £25 per person, payable at the time of booking.
You will also need money for the train fare.
The nearest train station to the boating is Broxbourne. I shall meet the group at Broxbourne station.
The group will catch the 0958 train from London Liverpool Street which arrives at Broxbourne at 1022.
The cost of a return ticket is £12.60 but if you purchase your tickets together a group saver ticket (based on 4 adults) is £6.30.
I suggest the group meets by the entrance to Platform 7 (pretty central) at 0930 and then goes to buy tickets together to get a group saving.
If everyone could bring something along for a picnic lunch then we shall have plenty to share. To ensure we don't have 4 lots of sausage rolls and not a lot else can you please add a note to the site to say what you plan on bringing along?
I'll also bring tea and cakes for the morning & afternoon.
