Join us for a lovely day in Whitstable.

Whitstable is a stunning little town, which I thoroughly enjoying visiting.  Plenty to see and do, without being too touristy!

This is going to be a relaxed day to enjoy the sights and sounds, and oysters, a day by the seaside, without structure.  We shall have plenty of time for mooching around the shops, walking on the beach, drinking coffee, eating oysters and having a relaxed early evening dinner before heading home.

Whitstable is like no other town by the sea. Its traditional charms, strong arts culture and rich maritime history complement Whitstable's modern appeal.

Whitstable's main claim to fame is its oysters which remain an intrinsic part of this sea town's character and are celebrated every July at the Oyster Festival. Oysters and other delicacies from the sea can be enjoyed at the local restaurants and pubs or taken home from the fresh fish market at the harbour.

Shoppers can delight in the town's bohemian charm with independent craft and gift shops, galleries, delicatessens and fashion shops trading side by side with butchers and bakers. When you need to recharge with a drink and food you will be spoilt for choice with a wonderful choice of cafes, restaurants and pubs. Whitstable is one of a very few in the country that has a pub on the beach.

Whether you take the main route through the town or enjoy haphazard progress through quiet lanes and alleyways with eccentric names such as Squeeze Gut Alley, you'll end up at the working harbour. Constructed in 1831 the harbour has an interesting history including diving, shipbuilding and fishing.

Along the coast at Tankerton, grassy slopes dip to meet the sea throwing out an invitation to visitors and locals to walk along the prom and take in some bracing sea air. There's a chance too to get unsurpassed views of Whitstable's skyline from The Street, a wide ridge of shingle stretching out to sea, but only revealed when the tide is low.

With its sense of intimacy and rich character Whitstable has secured a favoured spot in the hearts and minds of all who visit the town.

I'll be late arriving, had to change my journey in due to rail works on both my train lines! Had to resort to taking the bus. Have clear roads so hoping the driver continues driving fast.

    Hello All,
I think Yetunde is perfectly right, if last year trip went well by meeting at the WH Smith entrance, then, I don't see why we can not repeat it this time round. I personally will get there way early to get the group ticket. Have a wonderful weekend all. Sandra

    June 21, 2013

  • Honora M.

Many thanks Louise and I will see everyone there on Sunday morning.

    June 21, 2013

  • Louise G.

The group is meeting outside WHSmiths which is opposite a Breadbox Kiosk at 0840. You can then go to the ticket office together and purchase group tickets.

    June 21, 2013

  • Honora M.

I would also like to know the meeting place at Victoria Station
also what time do you propose meeting at given the fact that we have to buy the tickets and then catch the train

    June 21, 2013

    • Louise G.

      perfect, thanks Yetunde.

      June 21, 2013

    • Yetunde

The last time a trip set off from Victoria, we all met outside the WH Smiths entrance, which was opposite a Breadbox kiosk. Why not meet there again. Since there's sometimes a queue at the ticket office perhaps we should meet a little earlier at 8:30? what does everyone else think?

      June 21, 2013

  • Louise G.

Honora - do you want to suggest a meeting place at Victoria? If the group are catching the 0905 train I suggest meeting at 0840 - sorry its and early start.

Hello, Where is the meeting point in Victoria Station??? What time will be a good time to get there so I could get the group of 4 for the saver ticket??

Will we all get group tickets or is it just in groups of four?

    June 16, 2013

    • Louise G.

Oh you can all get an group ticket together, it just starts with groups of 4 and above, four is the minumum number of people for a group ticket.

      June 17, 2013

    • Honora M.

Yes the day that we went to Hatfield it worked out well as there were 5. Four of us savers and the other person wanted to leave early but still got it discounted and it worked out okay

could this be on 27th of July too? Just in time for the oyster festival you know otherwise where can we taste Oysters in Whitstable?

    April 24, 2013

    • Louise G.

I opted not to go for the Oyster festival as it is packed and doesn't show Whitstable as its true beautiful self. But panic not there are still loads of places to eat oysters, I had some last time fresh out the sea

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
