Let's do lunch in Boston...Really

Seriously, lunch in Boston is easily do-able and not terribly expensive thanks to the new train service. We'll take the 7:00 a.m. train out of Brunswick, getting in great girlfriends gabbing time on the way down. Once there we'll have enough time for sightseeing and/or shopping. Then lunch perhaps at the historic Faneuil Hall (where you can get a hot dog or a gourmet meal) and then on to the Italian North End for a to-die-for pastry. We'll take the 5:00 train home. On the ride home you can cuddle up with a book or join us for cocktails in the Club Car. We'll be home by 9:00.

If you're interested, let me know whether a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday works best for you. I'm thinking maybe in March.

By the way, if you're lucky enough to be 62 or older, you ride the train for half price.

All the walking burned off the 2000 calories from lunch, but my leg muscles are feeling it today. Would definitely do it again. VERY fun.

    It was a great experience.

What a fun day! We had lunch in the Italian North End, a beautiful ride on the swan boats at Boston Common, and just a great day enjoying the sights in Boston. We'll have to do it again!

I bought my ticket today at the station and got the discount.

What would you like to do in Boston? I would really like to walk around Boston Common after lunch, but otherwise I'm open to anything.

I'm pleased this didn't have to be cancelled entirely.

    May 6, 2013

Once again, the weather is not going to cooperate. Can we postpone until Friday the 17th?

    May 6, 2013

      The 17th works for me.

I checked my appointments and although I have something scheduled, I can easily change it. So, the 17th would work for me.

Because the weather isn't looking very Spring-like for this week, we are changing the Boston trip to May.

Nancy I am sorry as well...It is really not the best time for me to go. It's a cold week. Wish it was more like two weeks ago...Crazy weather...I would like to go in the Spring, as in May ...... Maybe we can do a group lunch then....Take care. diane

I'm really sorry, but if I stay home due to the snow tomorrow, then I have to work Friday. Reschedule for May?

    March 18, 2013

  • Anne T.

Sorry to cancel so late, but I'm pretty sure I can't sustain a day that long so soon after finishing chemo. Have fun!!!

Thank you for thinking of this! This sounds like a good remedy for my cabin fever!

Are you joining us for lunch in Boston on Friday, March 22nd? If so, now would be a good time to buy your train ticket. (If you want the senior half price discount, you have to buy your ticket on-line.)

Undecided? We're leaving at 7:00 a.m. We'll be home before 9:00 p.m. No one will even know you left town for the day... If you call in sick to work, we won't tell your boss.

Hey...I just did a day turnaround to Boston, last Friday....A warning....the 5 pm train is packed. I was in the Arts district and had to take the T to North Station...well the T was PACKED and I almost missed the Train.....plus I walked through three cars before I found a seat...and mine were reserved. SO the moral to this story is....I would not recommend travelling to far from North Station if we want to optimize our time there. And be back at North Station no later than 4:15.....Yes, bring a book, but remember you will be carrying it around all day....pack your bag smart. I know you will enjoy the trip. I fortunately had goooood weather....Diane

Friday, March 22 works great for me! I work Saturday so I'm off :-)

    January 29, 2013

  • Nancy C.

It looks like Friday, March 22nd, works best for most everyone. I hope this gives you enough time to work out your schedule so you can go. Yay! Our first road trip?? I guess it still qualifies as a "road" trip.

Saturday is best for me - but I can't do the 9th or 23rd. I could also maybe arrange work schedule to accommodate a Friday trip.

    January 28, 2013

  • Anne T.

This sounds like fun. Let me know the date you choose. Friday is a good day for me but I could work around a Saturday or Sunday with enough advance notice. Anne

Great Idea...actually I am doing a day train trip to Boston this Friday to shop with a friend....so I'll let you know how the trip was.....I have gone on the train to my daughters, but this is a little different....I would like a Friday or Saturday in Late March 16th or later....Sounds like fun....diane

I love this idea! Friday is best for me, but I'll come any day but the 17th.
