Imagine, if you will, a circus operating during the Great Depression. The beautiful blonde trapeze artist is pursued by a lovesick midget half her size. She rejects his advances until she hears he has just inherited a fortune. She and her strongman lover then make nefarious plans that ultimately don't turn out as they wish.
Tod Browning's controversial film Freaks was banned in the UK for almost 30 years. It caused such an uproar with test audiences that it was severely edited before general release in the US in 1932. After which it was banned in Boston and Browning's career took a major nosedive. The reason for this was that Browning -- who had run away to a circus at 16 -- used actual circus freaks in the film. This is still controversial in some countries. During the 60s this film began making the midnight cult film circuit. There will be a brief Robert Osborne-type intro and post-script by the hosts at the event.
Daniel Radcliffe -- long after graduating from Hogwarts' -- stars in The Woman In Black as a troubled lawyer sorting out the affairs of a recently deceased eccentric. However he soon discovers that the town holds a deadly secret: His client's house is haunted by the spirit of a vengeful woman from whom no one is safe. Stylish, creepy, and filled with Hammer trademarks, this film also features Ciaran Hinds and Janet McTeer as parents touched by the ghost's revenge.
Pizza will be ordered when all have arrived; cost to be shared. Popcorn and candy will be provided by the hosts.
