Whether you aspire to take a break from the hectic pace of urban life, want to learn simple meditation techniques, or wish to benefit from the collective energy of practicing with a group, please join us for “Becoming Your Own Therapist” – Shantideva Meditation’s new weekly meditation offering. Suitable for complete beginners and more advanced meditators, these drop-in sessions aim to be a weekly opportunity to develop inner peace, understand how the mind works, and share our experience with others.

There are various types of Buddhist meditation. During these sessions, we’ll practice mainly two. In a typical session, we would begin first with a placement meditation to help settle the mind. Then we would engage in analytical meditation to understand how our emotions work, and how we can enhance the positive ones and decrease the negative ones (focusing on one emotion at a time). The last half hour would be dedicated to discussion so that participants may raise questions, explore answers and share their experiences.

These meditations will occur on a weekly basis unless otherwise announced. Registration is not necessary, and you may come earlier (between 6:30 and 7pm) to help set up, or to settle down before the meditation begins. We ask that you try not to arrive after 7pm, so as not to disturb the meditation of others.

There will be a donation box at the entrance, and we welcome any contribution you’d like to offer, which helps cover the cost of space rental and administrative expenses. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

This workshop is led by George M. Cuesta, Ph.D., who has been studying and practicing the Buddhadharma since 2005. George has been a member of Shantideva Meditation since 2008. In addition to facilitating the weekly meditations, he leads the Medicine Buddha pujas and Guru pujas. He is a licensed psychologist in the State of New York and is the Supervisory Psychologist and Team Leader for the Manhattan Vet Center.
