Fall Whiskey Tasting at Patapsco Park pavilion with a fire place

We will have a large pavilion in the park with a stone patio overlooking the Patapsco River valley. The general concept will be for each of us to bring a bottle of whiskey to share. Those that would like are encouraged to bring food.  There is electric for crock pots and a huge stone grill that we can fire up if needed. There is a modern bathroom nearby. Show up around noon, eat, drink, socialize and enjoy the fall weather.

The pavilion is open so dress warm for the day. It is large enough that, with the fire roaring, it should be great even if it's rainy. There is a $3.00 fee to enter the park. We will share the cost of the pavilion and alcohol permit which should be less than $10.00 a piece (the more that come the less it will be).

Please comment in your RSVP what whiskey you intend to bring once you know and also if you are going to bring food.

Lisa Whisky Advocate and and Whisky often have ads for the Glen Cairn glasses, attending a whiskey live event will get you n expensive (free) one. As far as the case to carry your glasses. Only TW knows where that came from

Well the weather channel is calling for it to be 60 degrees on Saturday! I think this is going to be a great day to spend in the park with some food and drink. The fire may be for ambiance only. And to heat the "fire-dog" iron for the whiskey flips.
If your still deciding what whiskey to bring please let us know as soon as you can, I am putting together a tasting-notes card for the whiskeys.
Also, Pine Orchard Liquers in Ellicott City said they were going to donate a bottle of whiskey or two for the event. I don't know what it is yet but she said it would be something "interesting".(What ever that means).
I think we are looking good for food. If anything we could use some chips or cookies or light stuff like that.
A final note, I want to bring everyone's attention to the new start time of noon, that is a change since the park will close at 4:45pm.
Feel free to e-mail me direct or hit me on Facebook at Zulu Whiskey Club.
I'm getting excited, but then I'm a whiskey geek!

Anyone interested in 'car pooling' from downtown Baltimore? I think I can get my wife to do one leg of the trip for me and up to five other people in the Swagger Wagon. Failing this, we could also split a cab each way.

It will be me, 1 guest, a bottle of Talisker and a crock pot of Speyside Chicken Corn Soup!

Our Fall Tasting is a less than a week away. Here are the latest details:
I checked with the Ranger today and they have been closing the park at 4:45 PM. This is earlier than last year. So I am planning on being there to light the fire and set up at noon, you can show up at any time after that.
Please let us all know what whiskey you will bring. To do this just select the “Change RSVP” button and then add the whiskey you’re bringing to the comment and then resubmit the RSVP. That way it will show what each person is bringing on the right side of the page and everyone won’t have to fish through all of the comments to see what not to bring.
Remember the whole point of a bring-a- bottle event is that we get to try a variety of different whiskeys. If we don’t let everyone else know what were going to bring we might get 18 bottles of the same thing, (okay that won’t happen but you get the point).
Same thing with food, if you plan to bring food post that on your RSVP too.

Bottom line up front: December 8th, 1-6 PM, park pavilion, bring a bottle of whiskey. I found a large pavilion at the Hollowfield area of the Patapsco Valley State Park. It’s on route 40 at the Howard / Baltimore County line, just outside of Catonsville. It’s really easy to get to off of the Beltway. This Pavilion is really nice. It’s wide open on the two long sides and has a wall with a large fireplace on one end and a wall with an open “kitchen” of sorts on the other end. The kitchen is more like a place to serve food from but there is a fridge and plenty of electric receptacles. There is no running water in the pavilion but there is a modern bathroom about 100 yards away.

This pavilion also has its own stone patio with an awesome view overlooking the river valley. Alcohol permits are available. The pavilion is available for December 8th. That’s a little less than a month from now and I’m hoping everyone can make that day. I think if we tried to push it back anymore we would run into the holidays and would end up having to push it off entirely until January and then it would be too cold for this kind of thing.

This is the general concept: Everyone brings a bottle of whiskey to share. Everyone is invited to bring food to share if you want. We’ll coordinate this, I really don’t think we will need everyone to bring food but those that like to do so are encouraged. I will bring the ZWC glasses so we will be good there.
Show up around 1PM,(final times will be adjusted) there will be a fire raging in the fireplace, crock pots full of food, maybe have the large stone grill going if needed. Murm and I will are hoping to make the colonial drink " Whiskey Flip" for everyone to try,(there may be scald or burn injuries(jk)),share from the different bottles of whisky everyone brought, eat, drink, hang out until sundown when the park closes, I’m guessing around 6PM.

It is Pavilion #300 if you want to look it up. As with any pavilion it’s open so we will have to dress warm for the day and ‘I’m sure there will be at least one bottle of Islay to keep us all toasty. As long as it’s not really windy I think it will be great, even if it’s rainy. The pavilion cost $75 and the alchole permit is $35. We can share the cost of that. If everyone that has already signed up can make it and I know a few more from my Zulu Whisky club intend to sign up and attend I think it will cost each of us less than $10 to cover the pavilion use. I hope this works for everyone. Also, I am glad to hear other have come up with some other locations, we should plan to go there too, maybe for the next bring a bottle event. I am holding off on reserving the pavilion until I hear back from at least a few of us since there is a 50% refund policy. If this works for you please leave a comment as such. Thanks,

I think we have a couple of option for a plan B, if it doesn't work out. We have someone scouting out the Judge's Bench (their upper room) and a member in Arundel Mills has offered the community room at their complex. We're also looking into a few other places, that might allow us to rent space and have our own bottles.

I will be looking into the pavilion with the fire place (and liquor permit) as previously briefed. Everyone keep looking for a plan B. I'll keep you posted.
