Vegan Book Group

Greetings, worthy thanes:

Stacey has graciously handed the literary baton to me, and I solicit your suggestions for the next Vegan book group.  I would like to set a meeting schedule and pick the next two to three books.  I read at a glacial pace (well, a glacier unaffected by climate change, that is), and I confess that I found myself a bit rushed with the breakneck book-a-month pace that a reader of Stacey's intellectual alacrity could set.  I'd prefer to continue meeting Tuesdays, but preferrably bi-monthly.   That would put our next meeting at 28 Feb 2012.

As for books, I've a couple I think would be interesting, and I've had suggestions from others.  Please review the books I've tentatively selected below.  Let me know your individual preferences, and, depending on popular sentiment, I'll shift the order or add other books.  Please let me know.  For those interested, I've found that the occasional post-discussion tipple at Doyle's is a pleasant end to the evening.  Anyone who'd like to join me is always welcome.

Tally ho!

PS, I've updated the book list, which had initially reflected my unavailable choices.  jps

Feb: Natterson-Horowitz, Zoobiquity

April: Ozeki, My year of meats

June:  Mueller, Extra Virginity

August:  Stein, Art of Racing in the Rain

October:

Ugh! Just realized I have a conflict. And I'm reading the book!

I'm planning on the August book group. Have to plan my reading so I get it finished; but not too soon or I will forget it.

Hi Colleen! Welcome. The book for this month is "Extra virginity." It's about the quest for purity and the elimination of skullduggery in the olive oil trade (I thought it relevant to vegans because many of us cook with olive oil and presume (!) it to be healthy.

In any event, please feel free to attend even if you don't read the book. Often our discussions are only tangentially related to the book itself! Cherish has graciously consented to lead the next book group as I'll be away.

    Best wishes,

    John

Hi There! I'm moving to Tacoma next week and I would really like to start meeting people. I'd like to go to the book club meeting on June 25th. What book are you reading this month? Also, I may not have time to read it by then, would it be okay if I still went just to meet the group?
    Thanks!
