Vegan Book Group

Greetings, worthy thanes:

Stacey has graciously handed the literary baton to me, and I solicit your suggestions for the next Vegan book group.  I would like to set a meeting schedule and pick the next two to three books.  I read at a glacial pace (well, a glacier unaffected by climate change, that is), and I confess that I found myself a bit rushed with the breakneck book-a-month pace that a reader of Stacey's intellectual alacrity could set.  I'd prefer to continue meeting Tuesdays, but preferrably bi-monthly.   That would put our next meeting at 28 Feb 2012.

As for books, I've a couple I think would be interesting, and I've had suggestions from others.  Please review the books I've tentatively selected below.  Let me know your individual preferences, and, depending on popular sentiment, I'll shift the order or add other books.  Please let me know.  For those interested, I've found that the occasional post-discussion tipple at Doyle's is a pleasant end to the evening.  Anyone who'd like to join me is always welcome.

Tally ho!

PS, I've updated the book list, which had initially reflected my unavailable choices.  jps

Oct:  Smith, Genetic Roulette: The Documented Health Risks of Genetically Engineered Foods

Dec (18th):  Abramson, Unsaid (This is a correction; I inadvertently left December off the list, and I have been asked to avoid a scheduling conflict with 25 Dec).

Feb: Natterson-Horowitz, Zoobiquity

April: Ozeki, My year of meats

Awesome! I would love to read a feel good animal story to balance all our seriousness. The Art of Racing in the Rain?

Proposed books for the next sessions:

    December: Unsaid

February: possibilities include Ethical vegetarianism, Walters; Vegetarianism, A History, Spencer; Safe Food, Nestle (Kings' will determine availability of these texts).

Please pass along any suggestions you have. Best wishes,

    John, WV
