US National Whitewater Center (map)
Event Leader: Yen
Hi all
It's great to see that so many people are signed up for this outing! Those of us who went last year had a fantastic time, so I'm really excited to be the event leader for this year. I apologize for the delay in posting more information about our Whitewater adventure, but here's the scoop!
I've put together an Itenerary for the Logistics (meetup time, carpool arrangement, etc) and a list of Activies covered by the $49 admission price (this pass is called the the Single Day Unlimited All Sport Pass). Each person will buy this pass directly from the center on the day of the event. The facility is open from 9 to 9, but we'll arrange carpools based on when people need to be back in Raleigh.
EVENT LOGISTICS
• 7:15 AM: Meet at the parking lot of Super Walmart in Briar Creek, if you'd like to participate in the caravan and/or carpool. I will be the little curly haired girl with the BIG SIGN and BIG SMILE. If you plan to drive yourself and meet us in Charlotte, that's totally fine also. Give me a call at [masked] around 9:00am and I will give you the caravan's ETA and where we should meetup.
•7:30 AM: After carpools have been arranged and we've done introductions, we'll take off for the U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte (5000 Whitewater Center, Charlotte, NC 28214)
•10:00 AM: Meetup in Charlotte at the ticket counter (2.5 hour drive). After everyone has purchased their pass, we'll schedule our rafting time(s) with them. We'll also have a quick meeting to see what everyone wants to do, and plan the group activities, lunch and dinner. We will do the large group activities first and then split off into smaller groups depending on people's interests.

DAY OF ACTIVITIES (A Partial List of Activities Included in the All Day Sports Pass )
Family Rafting
If you've never experienced whitewater rafting or prefer a more relaxed trip, our family rafting trip was designed for you. It's an exciting experience for the whole family and specifically focused on younger participants and those not quite ready for a wild ride.
Whitewater "Adventure" Rafting - 90 Min
Adventure Rafting represents the mid-point between the relaxed Family Rafting and the more extreme Rodeo Rafting trips. While no prior experience is required, professional guides will take you down all of the class II-IV whitewater channels for one wild trip. Designed for those who wish to experience world-class whitewater, participants should be comfortable getting wet with the potential of coming out of their boat.
Flatwater Kayaking - 90 Min
A relaxing way to enjoy the Catawba River.
Climb 2 Zip - 30 Min
The Climb 2 Zip provides a thrilling experience combined with some of the best views of the Center. Participants are secured with a harness and helmet then climb up to a 32-foot-high platform. The experience heightens as you sit down and lean off the platform to glide along the 100-foot zip line, enjoying the view and floating to the ground like a leaf.
Climbing - 30 Min
Experience one of the largest outdoor climbing facilities in the world. Here, you'll ascend the walls to enjoy a birds-eye view of the whitewater rapids and the entire park
Mega Jump - 30 Min
The Mega Jump is a 40-foot free-fall that uses the new POWERFAN® system to gently bring you to a landing
Mountain Biking (bikes and helmets provided) - Up to 2 Hrs
Bike the region's best single-track trails! Experience the 14 miles of scenic woodland trails, river views, challenging climbs and exciting descents for riders of all ages and skill
Adventure Course - 30 Min
The high ropes course offers a series of challenges designed to test your physical and mental bounds. Make your way through this aerial obstacle course, safely secured with a harness and helmet, balancing on the cables as you conquer this new activity. Experience this challenge with other meetup members, as the course accommodates many participants at a time.
FOR THE ADVENTUROUS AMONG US
Rodeo Rafting (requires upgrade) - 90 Min
With the custom-designed, light and agile 10-foot rafts, expert guides will show you the most aggressive lines the river has to offer. Using kayak-style maneuvers, you'll test your skills against drops, waves, and tight technical turns. This is a whole lot of swimming and little bit of rafting. You will surf, you will flip, you will swim so be prepared for a very extreme activity.
Whitewater Kayaking (requires upgrade) - 90 Min
This is an exhilirating sport, but can be an inherently risky activity. All paddlers should have previous exposure to class III whitewater.
If you'd like to volunteer to drive, give me a call to discuss the details and if you plan to be a rider, please be prepared to share the cost of gas with your fellow riders and driver. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to give me a call or send me an email. As always, if these changes affect your ability or decision to participate, please update your RSVP so we can have an accurate headcount. I look forward to seeing everyone!
