THE PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD at Raven Theatre

THE PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD by J.M. Synge

Directed by Raven Co-Artistic Director Michael Menendian
http://www.raventheatre.com/

What happens when a handsome young stranger swaggers into a small pub in rural Ireland, telling grand tales and boasting of dark deeds? The men admire him and the women adore him! But soon he meets his match with a feisty, beautiful barmaid. This dark, comedic masterpiece still packs the same punch as when it was originally produced at Dublin's Abbey Theatre in 1907.

I agree with Scott. Great production, but...what in the hell was going on? Maybe the playwright's commentary on the shallowness of Irish culture?

Good production of an old standard.

Another job well-done by Raven Theatre! I can't say I understood the play completely but that's more the material than the production. Wonderfully acted, incredibly staged. Definitely worth your time and money to see!

I went the 14, which is there usual Friday Night Out. I thought the meetup was that night. Good show, a lot to think about, but they didn't have the normal talkback. Really like the performance by the actress who played Pegeen. Great accent and really captured the personality of the character.

Sorry Lee! Had prior commitment on Valentine's Day. I resume my Out at Raven scheduling for GOOD BOYS AND TRUE. Hope to see you there! (Event posting soon!)

I attended Feb 8th preview. Great set; music worked without intruding; lighting was "spot on"; Cristy and Pegeen Mike were good, but the Widow tried to steal our allegiance. The Sligo lasses were perfect! Cristy's da - well, he kept surprising us. Very nice piece of work done proud.
