Othello Playreading

Thank you for everyone's unbridled enthusiasm for this event. I am hosting a playreading for "Othello" at my apartment in downtown Minneapolis. This type of activity does not require any previous experience with Shakespeare. I have found this to be a most fun, engaging way to become familiar with the play and to prepare for a production by accomplished players (by the way, our group is going to the "Othello" performance Sat, 7th). We'll start around 7pm and read through act 3 and take a 15 - 30 minute refreshment break. Then, we'll finish the remainder of the play. I will distribute character roles (probably 8 - 10 characters) 24 hours prior to the reading or we can do this at the beginning of the evening. Either way, all that is required for attendance is a copy of the play and a 3 hour time commitment. Who knows, this may unlock the actress or actor within you - you didn't know existed! My address is listed above along with my phone number. I live on LaSalle Ave a block south of I-94. Parking should not be a problem. Please do not let this prevent you from participating. When you arrive at my building you will need to phone me so I can come down and let you in. Unfortunately, I must limit this group to 8 members since there are only so many parts to go around (and my apartment is only so big!). In addition, this meet-up will include 3-4 who not members of the theatre meet-up who have expressed an interest in the festivities. Finally, if you have a preference for a small character role or a larger character role please forward this as well. Anyone interested in bringing goodies (i.e., cheese and crackers, fruit, wine, beer), please feel free but let me know ahead of time.

A lot of fun, food and drinks were great, well moderated, everyone had a chance to play a role and the roles were switched around. It was a good way to experience Shakespeare. The process facilitates a deeper understanding and appreciation of the master and also is a great way to precede seeing the performance.

This was a fun time had by all. Many laughs and passion shared by everyone. It was great to see everyone get into their parts. Thanks to Maggie for being such a "demanding" director and for myself who had to play referee on a couple of occasions. See you all again soon!

Lots of fun, can't wait to do it again! It's really cool to put your emotions out there in a character. Thanks for organizing, Kenneth. See you Saturday at the real thing.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
