Words by Ira Gershwin...Great American Songbook (Park Square)

Ira Gershwin’s name is not as well-known as that of his famous brother, George, but he wrote the lyrics to many unforgettable tunes. Are relatives in town? A great family show. Music by George Gershwin, Harold Arlen, Vernon Duke, Jerome Kern, and Kurt Weill. Some examples—“Our Love Is Here to Stay,” “Fascinating Rhythm,” “I Can’t Get Started” and many, many more. Fall in love with the quiet character of Ira Gershwin as you explore the creative process of song writing. Joseph Vass, whose Ivey-award winning The Soul of Gershwin packed houses in 2011, showcases Ira and the songs he created with composers Harold Arlen, Vernon Duke, Jerome Kern, Kurt Weill—and brother George!
A hit song needs great music AND great lyrics.
Lyrics by Ira GershwinN. Additional Lyrics from Porgy and Bess by DuBose Heyward. Insights and tales about the colorful George, as well as a glimpse at the more private and understated life of Ira, frame this story of amazing and beautiful music.

Why go? For a great night of singing, swinging and a dash of learning. Why not go?
Who should you bring? Everyone who loves music (and won’t miss the Christmas carols)!
[Note: organizer will be ushering, so meeting up afterward at Great Waters Brewing Co next door can happen but I will be lagging about 15 minutes behind because of theater cleanup duties.]

Re: ticket prices--from the website, I am seeing that tickets are either $38 or $58, depending on whether the seat is standard or premium. I'm NOT seeing any info re: any senior discount. They may have a rush-line price, but you should call about how full they are (re: the odds of getting a rush ticket) when the box office opens in the afternoon. Box office number:[masked] E-mail: info@parksquaretheatre.org...though they may not monitor that on the weekend.

Just wondering--any idea what the ticket prices are. I may bring my senior citizen mother; does she get a discount?

Just let me know if you have time.

Note about ushering: If you are interested in getting started with ushering (it's generally a volunteer position), the best time to make contact with the theater of your choice is well before the new season of shows starts; for example, in early spring if you would like to start ushering in the fall.
