This Friday, writer, performer, and visual artist José Torres-Tama will perform ALIENS, IMMIGRANTS & OTHER EVILDOERS “Unplugged” as a catalyst to community engagement and to develop research for his ALIENS Taco Truck Theater Project, whereby he plans to transform a food truck into a theater on wheels to reach nontraditional theater audiences and cross racial, economical, and geographical borders with stories that present immigrants in a heroic light.
ALIENS, IMMIGRANTS & OTHER EVILDOERS, written and performed by José Torres-Tama, is a sci-fi Latino noir performance solo by José Torres-Tama, and it explores the current persecution of Latino immigrants across the land of the free. Satirizing the status of immigrants as “extraterrestrials” through a sci-fi prism, the artist shape-shifts into numerous “aliens” who challenge the hypocrisy of a country built by immigrants that vilifies the same people whose labor it readily exploits.
The ALIENS Taco Truck will be developed through a series of filmed interviews with diverse immigrant communities, and it is being commissioned by Pangea, Living Arts of Tulsa, and the National Performance Network. Pangea’s Dipankar Muhkerjee will direct the stage and mobile theater production. More information:[masked]
