Tim's Vermeer

Join Bryan for a documentary called 'Tim's Vermeer' on Sunday, March 16th @ The Main Art. Running time: 1 hour and 20 mins.

Please meet in the Red Lounge @ 7pm

Showtime: 7:30pm

Tim Jenison, a Texas based inventor, (Video Toaster, LightWave, TriCaster) attempts to solve one of the greatest mysteries in all art: How did 17th century Dutch master Johannes Vermeer ("Girl with a Pearl Earring") manage to paint so photo-realistically - 150 years before the invention of photography? The epic research project Jenison embarks on to test his theory is as extraordinary as what he discovers. Spanning a decade, Jenison's adventure takes him to Delft, Holland, where Vermeer painted his masterpieces on a pilgrimage to the North coast of Yorkshire to meet artist David Hockney and eventually to Buckingham Palace, to see the Queen's Vermeer.

Thumbs up here, too, although it occurred to me that he could have had an easier time if he had picked another work, one with less time consuming intricate detail, and one where the original was on view somewhere and not locked up in Buckingham Palace. Really interesting ,though. I wonder if art studios are going to start offering camera obscura classes.

I enjoyed talking with member who were very friendly and interesting people. I agree with Bryan that the documentary we saw could have been shortened, but it was an interesting idea and made one think. Everyone may have their own interpretation. I found Tim's idea of trying to recreate a Vermeer very intriguing.

I went to the wrong theatre. I just left a birthday party and my mind wanted me to believe that our movie was at the Maple because it is close to the party that i attended. I just arrived here and discovered, (screaming inside), we are at the Main. I can't make it there in time. I'm am so mad at myself. You guys enjoy the movie and I'll catch you next time. P.S. the folks at the Maple took pity on my plight and recognized me as a frequent moviegoer here gave me a comp movie ticket. I love the Maple!!!.

Fantastic movie definitely something I'd recommend for my art friends. I think everyone would want to know a trick like this.
