Enjoyed the movie, but would like yo have been able to discuss it more. But I understand that the theater needed us to clear out for the event they were having.

Ah yes Colin Firth... he is quite brilliant isn't he? :) RENT WORTHY: check him out in Tom Ford's "A Single Man" (2009)! He's amazing in it!

It took a few days of reflection before I figured out the message behind this movie. The pivotal scene is when Eric is being waterboarded and he confesses all the reports he heard on the radio about how the Japanese are losing the war. Atrocities are almost always commited whenever a side thinks they have won and there will be no repercussion. But at that moment the Japanese know that they've lost the war and that they will have to answer for their crimes. And tehy stop torturing Eric and finally come to terms with what they've done.

With 'The Railway Man', I had feelings reminiscent of watching '12 Years A Slave' and I closed my eyes on both during the violent scenes. Many people did not want to see '12 Years' because of the violence. Understandable. But truthfully, a few minutes of violence in a 2-hour movie doesn't come close to what real people who lived through such atrocity endured. So, If viewing it makes me feel uncomfortable... it should! Overall, The Railway Man was poignant, sad, redeeming and I would recommend this film. The redemptive quality of the film is why I would put 'Railway' on my list of must-see films. How's that for a little discussion Jody? (Smile)

I ended up seeing the movie on Friday with my mother because I knew I wouldn't be able to see it on Sunday (had to attend an online seminar all day that day). I thought it was very good. I've never seen a Colin Firth movie that wasn't worth seeing, especially the Bridget Jones movies.

Really intense and hard to watch. Great cast but, I need to see some light hearted movies.

I knew it would be from the trailer... can't handle it so I'm gonna have to pass on this one for now, but perhaps this is another Oscar nom for Colin Firth?

Thanks Jody for understanding. How was the movie?

As Bryan said, it was intense. I liked it. A very deep look at how war continues to impact upon and disturb all the individuals involved long after the fighting has ended.
