Hello all! Please be sure to attend this exciting meeting as we will be joined by many new faces. Members of the Schaumburg-Hoffman Clergy Association will be joining our discussions and will represent numerous dominations. I am looking forward to taking part in dialogue with Catholic priests and Protestant pastors from various faith traditions!
We are a group of people who discuss theology, learn more about our spirituality, and share ideas about what the church should be in today's context - all while enjoying some good beer (beer is optional, but encouraged :-).
We meet twice a month - on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays.
On the 1st Wednesday, we'll discuss one or two interesting, related topics that people disagree on and see what happens.
On the 3rd Wednesday, we'll discuss the spiritual themes in a movie. We'll start with the following questions:
1. Is this movie moral, immoral, or amoral?
2. What (if any) are the redemptive themes?
3. Who or what is the moral center of the film?
4. Do we see Campbell's "Hero's Journey" played out by anyone? *
On the 2nd Wednesday, there will be an opportunity to watch the movie at The Campus Life Teen Center in Arlington Heights. We'll have snacks (but no alcohol - sorry). Or you can just watch it on your own that week (rent it or check it out on Netfilx or whatever).
The only rules for Theology Pub are: (1) No preaching. (2) No proselytizing. (3) No peddling. In other words, we're here to investigate each other's beliefs and positions, in an open-forum / open-debate setting, not push our own on anyone. It's all about making room for discussion and discovery. And it's about fun and, of course, beer. So come on out!
