Learning Japanese Through Music (1)

[masked])

The venue is going to be a conference room in the office building that the company I work for is located in. I'll email the address to the attendees.

I changed the time from 1pm to 4pm, hoping to accommodate some members who expressed interest but unable to attend due to schedule conflict.

Hi everyone,

It's been long time since I posted a meetup on this group last time as I've been just swamped with work and other activities, but this is something I'm urged to post now - before the 2nd anniversary of the horrendous earthquake that took so many lives in Northern Japan.

The country that I'm from and love so much has never been the same since that nightmarish day... I still can't believe it's been almost 2 years...

Here's one of the many videos you can find on Youtube that are dedicated to the earthquake victims and I thought it could be a good material to learn Japanese through.

http://youtu.be/T-_xeP4YvlM

I haven't picked a venue yet, but hopefully I can announce soon.

Until then, please watch the video and listen to the music and see how much you can comprehend.

At the meetup we will listen together, and Japanese members will help figure out so that you will know the lyric (and the narrations).

This meetup is open to all levels. If you're beginner, you can still enjoy listening.

Good luck and see you soon!

Sally

Learning Japanese through music was very interesting & educational. Lyrics were broken down into segments so we could understand the meaning of the phrases, followed by repeating back the lyrics in Japanese. Learned a lot in a very short period of time!

This is really interesting, because my Japanese professor in college often used songs to teach us Japanese! And the first time I heard the language it was sung :)

Nice) I like all kinds of music and it conveys not only meaning but also feeling and emotion, which IMHO is very important to remember words, phrases and expression that sink in your head))

    • Julie G

Hi Sally, yes I did! It was the best thing I could have done. Of course, the minute I got back, I was planning my next trip! I hope to go again in the fall. Had a wonderful experience there.

Hi. I'm new to this group and I'll be more than happy to help with Japanese language. But I cannot be there if it's too far, i.e. OC, LBC, etc. Also, can I bring my kids? :)

    February 25, 2013

    • Sally

It will be in Westside, but unfortunately bringing children will not be appropriate for this particular class though I love kids! Since we do lots of listening to the video, we need to concentrate. Sorry but hope you understand.
