Beaujolais Nouveau, celebrated on the third Thursday of November. If you haven't ever attended a local café version of this celebration, it's a must.
Picture it. Cozy café, live music complete with accordion, straw bales, raffle tickets. OK, maybe it's a bit cheesy but it's tons of fun.
Dinner will be a set menu with an appetizer, a main dish (like beef stew with wine), and a dessert. Price is approximately 32 euros each for dinner + wine. The wine is about 20 euros per bottle and we'll share the wine at the table. There is no smaller version of dinner, it's 3-course.
OK, it's not fancy, but it's a lot of fun. Yes, new wine is a bit grim, but I promise this will be an enjoyable evening -- especially if you're new to France.
This is our neighbourhood café and we eat here often (in the 15th, corner of Commerce and Entrepreneur; Metro 8). The service is friendly and the resto is always busy. I spoke with the owner, Alain, and he assures me he can accommodate a vegetarian or two (with a goat cheese salad, I'm sure) but that they would not be offering their regular menu, just the formule. We've gone twice for the Beaujolais Nouveau celebrations and it's hilarious and yummy and a photo opportunity. And you'll probably win something in the raffle (bring a few euros in change for tickets).
So that we have a mix of new members and 'regulars', please add your name to the RSVP list and I'll pick names from a hat :)
See you soon, Shelley
