I believe it is the right time in history for this. Mature technology and need have come together. I have been motivated recently by Richard Heinberg's "End of Growth", Jeremy Rifkin's "The Third Industrial Revolution", Diamandis & Kotler's "Abundance - The Future is Better Than You Think", and Macy & Johnstone's "Active Hope".
I believe in being independently dependent.
Replication is essential. I hope to learn and then teach so that all beings have equal access to a full life. I am aware of Transition Towns and Resilience Circles as replication benchmarks.
I am a materials scientist/engineer by profession. I have experience in organic and deep bed gardening. I have kept bees. I compost the traditional bin method, vermiculture, bokashi, and flies. I have begun learning hydroponics and have a deep interest in aquaponics. I have general carpentry and building skills. In addition, I am a trained crisis counselor, know yoga, meditation and other stress reduction techniques. I can do both individual and large group training. I have installed rain barrels in my Garland yard and have converted the yard from sod to xeriscape with an emphasis on butterfly and bird attraction (thanks to my lovely bride Elaine!)
