An interesting play that is a bit rough around the edges and not for the faint-hearted. There were scenes of simulated whipping, beating, stabbing, sex and giving birth. There were also some staging malfunctions such as the whip getting caught on a prop and the awkward initial wheeling out of a board carrying Aaron's chained body.

Nevertheless, the play contained some interesting themes, leaving the audience with much to digest. A good knowledge of Shakespeare and his work would be helpful in understanding the significance of some of the events and scenes.

Theatre Passe Muraille is known for staging less mainstream, more experimental theatre. This play is in keeping with that mandate and definitely leaves you thinking.
