Join us for a guided walking tour of Yorkville led by Bill Genova, one of Toronto's most knowledgeable historians and storytellers. After the tour, Bill will join us for lunch at a popular neighbourhood restaurant where you can grill him some more on Toronto history!

Our group is getting a 60 per cent discount off regular tickets for Bill's tour. We will pay $10. Regular price is $25 for this tour.

THE TOUR

Yorkville is one of Toronto’s toniest neighbourhoods. However, it has a storied past as a village originally outside of Toronto. Our tour will visit many of the highlights of historic Yorkville, including Potter’s field cemetery at Bloor and Yonge St., the town hall, Mount Sinai hospital, the jail and firehall, and Carnegie library.

Today’s Yorkville is much reduced. At one time, it included parts of the Annex and Rosedale, areas that we'll visit to see some of the great Victorian homes that still stand today. More information.

ABOUT BILL GENOVA: Bill is a Toronto historian, storyteller and tour guide. His interest in Toronto history became a passion after he retired from his financial planning career at age 55. He began amassing huge amounts of information on the city's history and set up his company, Genova Tours. Nowadays, at his downtown Toronto home, his Toronto history collection includes about 300 books as well as five filing cabinets full of newspaper articles and clippings plus a computer full of archival photos of Toronto. Bill is an expert on Toronto history.

I don't understand the problem here .... Unfortunately there were only two stalls in the washroom but when you gotta go, you gotta go! :) I think Bill extended his talk longer then anticipated which also lengthened the tour. Unfortunately I had to leave unexpectantly but I enjoyed the tour. Look forward to seeing everyone on the next tour!

Belinda, I enjoyed the Yorkville tour very much. Mr. Genova's enthusiasm and passion for history was infectious. Being of the same "vintage" as Mr. Genova, his references, antidotes and rememberances regarding the 60's in the Village were a delight! Kindly pass on my thank you to him for the wonderful tour. This will be my first event with your group and I'll be bringing my baby girl in her stroller (so will likely not attend the lunch afterwards). Belinda: I've been in touch with Bill previously and he's confirmed that the tours are stroller-friendly :-).

Will we be indoors at all as it is supposed to rain?

    June 19, 2013

    • Belinda

It's an outdoor tour and will proceed rain or shine. It's too early to say yet whether it will rain on Saturday morning. My experience is that it often rains later in the day than predicted. Right now I'm in negotiations with Mom Nature to hold off on the rain for us. :-)

All right, thank you Belinda. Do you know if there are a lot of people who want to attend but can not due to size of the group? May be it is possible to organize another tour?

    June 17, 2013

    • Belinda

This is the only Yorkville walking tour I'm organizing at the moment.

It's fine to bring your dog as long as you don't bring him in the restaurant!
