70% off IRISH MASTERPIECE: The Gigli Concert (drama, Soulpepper Theatre $23)

Join us for The GIGLI Concert, an Irish theatrical masterpiece. The play will be presented by the Soulpepper Theatre Company in Toronto's historic Distillery District.

Our group will save up to 70 per cent off regular ticket prices by purchasing rush tickets, which are usually best available on Mondays.

THE PLAY

An Irish building contractor has an unlikely but irresistible desire: to sing like the great Italian tenor Beniamino Gigli. He retains the services of self-styled "Dynamatologist" JPW King to achieve his impossible dream. Hardly a voice teacher and certainly unfit to be a life coach, the hard drinking King finds himself grudgingly taking on the project, intrigued by this mysterious stranger. Written by Irish playwright Tom Murphy who is considered to be Ireland's greatest living playwrights. More information

Please note a seat is not guaranteed for a rush ticket! .

Great acting but I found the plot was unclear and not engaging.

Hi...I enjoyed the play although I agree with the rest of you it was hard to follow the dialogue...a little too intellectual. Although the story was good and I liked how each one of the characters transformed themselves and each other in the end. It's one of those plays that requires some study - before or after the show...Hope to see you all at the Last Confession! Thanks Belinda.

The acting was very good in the Gigli Concert, but the story left me wondering what the author was trying to tell us or show us.

@ Wendy: Aptly put. I totally agree.

Ohhhhh Peter you're such a diplomat! You did a great job of organizing this meetup. Unfortunately, the script wasn't very compelling even though the acting and production were both good. I snoozed through most of the first half and left at intermission. :-( It was lovely meeting Kate and I look forward to seeing her at other events.

Thanks to all of our members for arriving so early ... It meant that we were all seated right together in excellent seats ... A very warm welcome to our newest member Kate who comes to us with a wealth of experience with theatre productions.
Personally I found this play was difficult to appreciate, as I could not see a great deal of logic in the story ... no doubt a result of my engineering background.

Sadly, I must cancel. We are in the midst of a major declutter -- our condo is on the market and our first showing is Wednesday! This is a great sounding play and I am sorry to miss it.
