This attendance policy has been created in response to:
* a high number of no-shows at some meetups and
* members requesting, and receiving, discount promo codes and then failing to show up at the meetup spot or pay the meetup fee
Much work goes into organizing Thumbs Up meetups and arranging discount promo codes. It's disrespectful for a member to RSVP to attend a meetup and then fail to show up or cancel at the last minute.
Sometimes members with good attendance records are ill or there's an emergency preventing attendance. This is understandable. However, some members chronically fail to show up. This is not acceptable.
This policy is designed to:
* Reward members with good attendance records
* Promote "responsible attendance" in which members demonstrate respect and courtesy for Thumbs Up hosts by showing up for the meetups they RSVP for
* Ensure members who attend Thumbs Up meetups are vested in our group
* Prevent abuse of privileges by members who are not vested in our group
* Discourage hoarding of attendees' spots at limited-space meetups by members who have no serious intention of actually attending the meetup
DEFINITION OF A NO-SHOW
For the purposes of this attendance policy, a "no show" at a meetup is defined as:
* Failure of a member to attend a meeup for which he or she has RSVPed and is on the attendees' list for or
* Changing an RSVP on the day of the meetup, or any time after 10 p.m. the night before, from "attending" to "not attending"
A "no show" will not be recorded for a member in good standing who doesn't show up if they:
* Purchase an advance ticket and post their seat number on the event page (or e-mail the seat number to the event host) and
* Offer their ticket for sale to the group
MEMBERS WITH GOOD ATTENDANCE
Members will be exempt from paying the $2 meetup fee after attending, and paying meetup fees, for a maximum of 15 Thumbs Up meetups (total $30) in one calendar year.
To be eligible, members:
* Must have a good overall attendance record in which the number of Thumbs Up meetups they have attended exceeds the number of meetups they no-showed
* Must not have violated any of the policies below in the calendar year or, if they have, must have taken the required remedial steps (such as paying penalty fees) to restore their privileges
This exemption not only applies to an active member in good standing, but to any of the member's guests (such as a spouse) who have each paid the $30 maximum in one calendar year. Any new guests the member brings, who has not paid the maximum, will be subject to the $2 meetup fee until the maximum is reached in one calendar year.
Members with good attendance records will be given priority for attendance at meetups with waiting lists, for day trips, for passenger spots in carpools and for special perks such as free tickets.
Members with good records may be given special consideration if they no-show at a meetup.
New and existing members will become eligible to receive discount promo codes after they:
* Attend at least one Thumbs Up meetup involving the purchase of live theatre tickets or
* Pay a $20 new member fee
Members must have good attendance to receive promo codes.
MEETUPS WITH PROMO CODES
Members become eligible to receive discount promo codes when they have attended at least one Thumbs Up meetup or if they pay a $20 member fee.
Members will lose their privilege of receiving discount promo codes if they request and receive a promo code for a Thumbs Up meetup and if they do not show up at the meetup spot and if they do not pay the $2 meetup fee for themselves and each of their guests (if any).
Once a member receives a promo code for a show, they must pay the $2 meetup fee for themselves and each of their guests, no matter how much advance notice they may give of no longer attending that meetup.
These members may also lose their privilege of being on attendees' lists for Thumbs Up limited-space meetups as well as lose their privilege of attending Thumbs Up day trips and other privileges.
These members may restore their privileges by paying a $5 penalty fee. This penalty will apply to the member plus each of their guests.
These penalties may be forgiven if a member, who can no longer attend, contacts the organizer prior to the meetup and offers their ticket to the group.
Members requesting promo codes for two or more meetups at any given period of time must pay the $2 meetup fee for each of those meetups in advance. The fee must be paid for themselves and each of their guests before the codes will be provided.
DOUBLE PENALTIES FOR NEW MEMBERS
New members, who have attended five or less Thumbs Up meetups and who receive a promo code and who fail to show up at the meetup spot and/or pay the meetup fee at a Thumbs Up meetup, may be assessed a double meetup fee of $4 for themselves and each of their guests PLUS a double penalty of $10 for each person in their party.
In addition, these new members must pay a $20 member fee (if they didn't pay it when they joined) to become eligible again to receive promo codes.
Alternatively, these new members may be removed and banned from Thumbs Up at the founder/organizer's discretion.
USE OF PROMO CODES
All members must request and receive discount promo codes directly from the Thumbs Up founder/ organizer.
These codes are only provided to eligible members. The codes are only for use by those eligible members to purchase discount tickets for themselves and any guests they may have RSVPed for.
The sharing of promo codes by eligible members with other members or non-members is not permitted.
Any member found sharing a promo code with another person will be automatically removed from Thumbs Up and barred from rejoining.
MEETUPS WITH NO PROMO CODES
Members will lose their privilege of receiving promo codes if it's known they attended a Thumbs Up meetup and if they did not pay the $2 meetup fee for themselves and each of their guests.
These members may also lose their privilege of being on attendees' lists for Thumbs Up limited-space meetups as well as lose their privilege of attending Thumbs Up day trips.
Members may restore their privileges by paying the $2 meetup fee they owe plus a $5 penalty for themselves and each of their guests (if any).
SIGNING UP WITH GUESTS
Members must sign up with all their guests for all meetups. Failure to do this will result in double meetup fees ($4 per person) and double penalties ($10 per person) against the member. In addition, the members must pay a $20 member fee. These amounts must be paid before promo code privileges can be reinstated.
MEETUPS WITH WAITING LISTS
Members will lose their privilege to receive discount promo codes if they take up a spot on a Thumbs Up meetup with a waiting list and if they do not show up for the event or if they change their RSVP to "not attending" with insufficient notice (see no-show definition above).
These members can restore their promo code privileges if they pay a $20 attendance fee.
However, acceptance of the $20 attendance fee will be at the Thumbs Up founder/organizer's discretion. In some cases, the no-show member may be removed from the group. Taking away a spot from a member on a waiting list, and then failing to show up, is considered a serious infraction.
MEMBERS WITH POOR ATTENDANCE
Members will lose their privilege of receiving discount promo codes if the number of times they no-showed at Thumbs Up meetups exceeds the number of times they attended Thumbs Up meetups.
These members will also lose their privilege of being on attendees' lists for Thumbs Up limited-space meetups as well as lose their privilege of attending Thumbs Up day trips and being given passenger spots in carpools.
Members may restore their privileges by:
*Attending more Thumbs Up meetups so that the number of times they attended exceeds the number of meetups they no-showed at or by
* Paying a $20 attendance fee to restore their promo code privileges
Members, whose number of no-shows exceeds by 10 or more the number of meetups they attended, will be removed from Thumbs Up.
Members who show up for a meetup but haven't signed up, must pay the $2 meetup fee if they wish to join and socialize with the group at the meetup. Members who refuse to pay the meetup fee under such circumstances may be removed from the group.
