Sunday, May 15 – 10am. Palos Verdes Peninsula coastal loop. Enjoy a spring look at the wild side of the Palos Verdes Loop Trail, returning on a bluff-top portion of the California Coastal Trail. The views are spectacular all along the way looking north across the Santa Monica Bay to Malibu and then south to Catalina Island. Approximately six-mile loop; 4 hours including a lunch break. Bring money to supplement your day pack at a deli in Malaga Cove Plaza. Walk will be on single track trails and roadsides. A walking stick may be helpful.
Meet on the trail in the Palos Verdes Drive West center median where Apsley Road crosses it. There is free roadside parking on both P.V. Dr. West and Apsley. MapQuest a route to 2325 Palos Verdes Drive West (Lunada Bay Plaza). Start point is about a mile north. From anywhere inland, the more scenic, the more freeway with fewest surface streets is through San Pedro. Exit the 110 (Harbor Fwy.) at Channel Street. First light, turn left onto Gaffey St; first light, turn right onto Summerland; first light, turn left onto Western. Go 25 blocks to a light and turn right onto 25th Street. Enjoy the views for about nine miles. After you pass the fountain in the center median, watch for Apsley Road to your left. If the center median disappears, you missed it; go back.
