This is going to be a two-venue workshop with an overnight stay at Quality Inn New River Gorge, Fayetteville WV.
We will meet and leave at Seven/Eleven off of Hwy. 234. A 2-hour trip will land us at Dolly Sods for sunrise. We will head to Babcock State Park after sunrise and should arrive around 1-2 PM, which gives us the rest of the day to photograph the beautiful mill.
We will leave Babcock State Park in the evening and head towards our hotel in Fayetteville, WV, which is about 22 miles away. We will enjoy a nice evening meal together before calling it a night.
Glade Creek Grist Mill is the most photograph mill in the United States and this venue is so iconic that you might get ridicule for having another image, but as a photographer, you need this picture in your portfolio and on your wall. It is so picturesque that you can’t miss from any angle. All we need to do is make sure we stay out of each other’s way. There are some comps that are a must and I will deliver them to you as a group. Then I will let you go and let you try to create an image that hasn’t been made yet. This date should be rocking with spectacular autumn colors, which makes this place so beautiful at this time of the year. My image of Grist Mill above was taken on October 6, 2012. This was a 3-shot vertical panoramic using a[masked]mm lens. I wanted a wide view but I also wanted the subject closer to me and this method created a beautiful non-distorted wide angle view of Glade Creek Grist Mill.
For Sunday morning sunrise, we will photograph the New River Gorge Bridge for some spectacular autumn scene. And if we are lucky enough, we might even capture the fog hanging over in the river’s gorge with the bridge atop the fog. This bridge sits 876 feet above the river and is one of the most photographed places in West Virginia. If everyone has the energy, we might shoot one of the better cascades in the area before heading home.
