Let's get together and talk tiny!

The main theme will be a social component where we can talk. I've got a rough agenda in mind but please PLEASE add agenda ideas in comments.

One again we will be meeting at the Northeast library. The parking can be tough, but there is plenty of street parking available. If anyone wants to be walked to their car after the meeting I'm happy to do so. Agenda:

5 min - Short introduction from TinyJ

15min - Discuss the RV show
30min - Split into two groups, Mobile vs. Fixed foundation
60min - Rejoin and talk about challenges each group faces, and meetups we can plan to address these

At the next meetup after this one we'll finish up Troy's DVD.

It was so great to meet all of you and have a few productive conversations about tiny building. Thank you all. I look forward to more meetings! I would also love to help in the building of some small houses (or other building projects for that matter) for the great company and the invaluable experiences!

I thought it was great! I had an opportunity to meet a lot of people who share the same interest. Some even were in the same phase o the project as I am. Looking forward to future meetups with this group.

J, I have an idea For an icebreaker To start the meeting. What about a quick group survey discussion about phase/level that we are currently at. #1. Intro To TH. #2. Downsizing stuff. #3.....

Looking forward to spending time with everyone. I'll be a little tired, playing the airport game right now, so I'll be looking for everyone to have ideas and things they would like to talk about.

A good blog to follow right now is Jay Schafer's at FourLightsHouses.com. He's doing a "Don't Try this at Home" series on his biggest mistakes when building his first tiny house. Might provide some good food for thought.

A good place to put this would be under the discussions tab for everyone to see.

Is there a possibility of the group maybe posting tiny house things that they have in excess and want to share with others who have need? My house is being built and supplied with mostly re-purposed items and sometimes I receive extra things from my wish list like...a tiny refrigerator, etc. Would love to share the extra stuff if that is possible.

@ Troy: Super!!! Thanks!! @ Lynne: I am doing it myself. I did get some demolition help in the beginning to get (reclaim) some wood. But people were turned off after that "experience". Scaling down has been the hardest thing for me to do. I have received some awesome free stuff though.

I am currently in the Comet Camper Mariah's simplify and downsizing E-course. So I too am busy with this process as well. Just let me know for help, thanks, Troy

Could we visit about laws and steps to change laws to allow for pocket n'hoods and the like...

    February 26, 2014

    • TinyJ

could you elaborate on pocket n'hoods?

I'm going to work on putting together more organized notes on what I feel are common questions/worries/yadda just before this meetup. I've got a flight leaving at 6 in the morning which should get me back into the cities at noon. I might be a smidge out of it, but I'll do my best to facilitate everyone talking!

So happy to finally come across other people interested in building tiny homes. I really want one, whether I build it or have it built. I would love to build my own but don't have any KNOW-HOW. Would need to find people willing to volunteer to help me do everything from the get-go! Don't know if that's possible but can hope!

Hi Lynne, I noticed you joined and read that you already have a mobile home. I hope you can attend this meetup (please RSVP if you plan on making it) because I have an idea or two for you depending on the condition of your current home.

General topics not related to tiny HOUSES I think should be talked about:

    1) Finances
    2) Stress
    3) Down sizing

    For future meetups:

    1) Re-Occurring group drop offs to good will
    2) Spring/Fall group garage sale

Last time we had a small group head out the front door of the library, cross the street, and grab a bite at http://www.lacoloniarestaurant.com/. I'm more than willing to do that again if people have more questions after the meetup or just want more time to talk tiny.
