Learn "How to Travel Around the World" and "How to Use the Internet for Travel"

Thinking about a trip around the world? Not sure how to start? Not sure if it's possible?
For an empowering and informative introduction to long-term, independent international travel, and for a head start on planning your own dream trip around the world, come to one of Edward Hasbrouck's inspiring and educational seminar on "How to Travel Around the World."

Edward Hasbrouck wrote the books on around-the-world travel, and on travel and the Internet: The Practical Nomad: How to Travel Around the World (4th edition, 2007) and The Practical Nomad Guide to the Online Travel Marketplace (2001). "A journalist and travel expert, Mr. Hasbrouck brings to the table in-depth knowledge of the travel industry," says the Wall Street Journal in recommending his blog.

The winner of a 2003 Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism award for investigative reporting from the Society of American Travel Writers Foundation, Edward Hasbrouck is,"That rare person, the expert who's willing to tell all." (GNN Whole Internet Catalog). "An inside expert." (Yahoo!). "A nationally renowned expert [on how to] get the best of the budget deals without getting burned." (Tripod).

Edward has been around the world 3 times and visited all 50 U.S. states and more than 50 other countries. His most recent big trip, in 2007-2008, lasted 13 months and covered 80,000 miles in 28 countries on 6 continents, including 10,000 miles in North America through 30 U.S. states and 4 Canadian provinces

Thursday, 22 January 2009 (San Francisco):

Discussion of "World Travel In Troubled Economic Times": 7 p.m., Get Lost Travel Books, 1825 Market St. (on the south side of Market between Guerrero and Valencia, on the F-Market streetcar, 4 blocks east of the Church St. Muni Metro station or 15 minutes walk from the 16th/Mission BART station), San Francisco, CA.

Jump-start your next international journey with this talk by Edward Hasbrouck, "The Practical Nomad". Back in San Francisco after a 13 month, 6 continent, 80,000 mile trip around the world and the release of the 4th edition of his acclaimed guidebook, "The Practical Nomad: How to Travel Around the World", Edward will present tips and advice about travel in the current economic climate:

-Is this a good time to travel? (Surprisingly, YES!)
-How will Obama's election change the reception for U.S. travellers?
-What are the key decisions that will most influence your travel budget?
-What are the places where Americans can still afford to travel (and which are now more affordable than ever)?
-How can you travel comfortably and enjoyably on a budget -- even in expensive parts of the world?
-How can you find places that are off the beaten path, and what are some of the top destination recommendations from Edward's recent trip?

Edward Hasbrouck's seminar on "How to Travel Around the World" will address how to get the time and money for extended travel, how to choose where to go, how to plan your budget and manage money on the road, and how to get around on your own and minimize culture shock. Edward explains the facts and widespread myths about travel safety and health, how airfares work, how and why international airfares are completely different from domestic airfares, and how to get the best set of airline tickets, at the best price, for a multi-stop journey.

Edward's presentations on "The Internet As a Travel Tool" include how to navigate the virtual library of travel planning information on the Internet, consumer guidance on how to buy tickets and make travel reservations online, tips and tricks for finding accessing and using the Internet while you are traveling, and do's and don'ts for consumer protection, privacy, and security.

In each of these presentations, Edward will also gives updates, tips, and advice on travel safety, security, and the latest changes in airport and airline procedures affecting travelers in the USA and the rest of the world since 11 September 2001. There's time at each of these events for individual questions.

Edward also provides commentary as a travel expert and consumer advocate on news and public affairs broadcasts and talk shows, and speaks on topical issues related to his travel reporting and his work with the Identity Project on travel-related human rights and civil liberties issues.

“ It was a wonderful opportunity to hear first hand from a guy that has been three times around the world. Facsinating and informative, Edward made a very good presentation and also answered many questions. At the end, he was available to sign his new book, -The Practical Nomad-. Everyone seemed to like it a lot. ”
