Suncoast Toastmasters Speech Contest

The International Speech and Table Topics Contests have been scheduled for the most talented and creative club in Tampa Bay!

The purpose of a speech contest is to provide an opportunity for speakers to improve their speaking abilities, to recognize individual Toastmasters as an encouragement to all, and to provide an opportunity for all Toastmasters to learn by observing speakers who have benefited from their Toastmasters training. Each contest focuses on a particular set of skills, providing a terrific opportunity to learn about a specific area of communication. For the International Speech Contest, the contestant must have completed six speech projects from the basic Communication and Leadership Program manual. (From the Toastmasters International Speech Contest Rulebook.)

As a Toastmaster, a speech contest sparks your competitive spirit and your creativity in a way that the regular Toastmasters meeting can’t. The contest environment gives you the push to do better and to try harder. Competition is not only about winning. It’s about growing. No one who participates in speech contests beginning at the club level comes away without improving themselves from the experience.

Toastmasters International was founded in 1924 and there are now over 280,000 members in 13,500 clubs worldwide. Tonight is our International Speech and Table Topics Contest. It isn’t a typical meeting but you will see both new and experienced Toastmasters competing. Only four will come away with trophies but each will have taken another step toward Clearer Communication. Toastmasters’ membership will improve leadership skills; help foster better teamwork, allow you to conduct more effective meetings. It will also increase productivity. We assign each new member a Mentor who provides positive feedback. Is it cost-effective?...It’s cheaper than bowling and you don’t have to wear anyone else’s shoes! i.e. less than $4.00 per week total!

After each meeting 60-75% of attendees (including our guests) go out for drinks, food or simple socialization. Tonight it will be at Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza located at 13020 North Dale Mabry Highway in Carrollwood.

Would you be able to serve as a Judge at Suncoast Toastmasters Speech Contests on next Tuesday, March 4th at 6:45pm at the Northdale Center which is located in Carrollwood 1/4 mile past Whole Foods? We may be able to make a "trade" by sending a Judge or two to your club or area contests! [masked] - Club Secretary

The most effective way to become a better speaker is to join Toastmasters. Feel the fear and do it anyway! Take the plunge! There is never any pressure on guests to join Suncoast Toastmaster. But, it’s cheaper than bowling…and you don’t have to wear anybody else’s shoes!
